The main atom author has also created tree sitter which is a pretty big deal for modern editors.

Kind of having an irrational allergy to projects owned by microsoft so I tend to use Kate.
Which works rather well and integrates nicely with kde.

We need more editors! There are still 10 editors missing for a good life.

After a very long time, Kate is once again my favorite editor with its inclusion of multiple cursors. I moved from Kate to Atom when I had to use Windows for work, but now I'm back at Linux and Kate. I migrated to VS Code last year but I use Kate for many things now.

VS Code worked great for my graduation/final project except for the astonishing ram usage, but i guess that's the price of Microsoft branded fancy colors and peanut brain assistance. Looking forward to setup neovim to become a terminal dweller.

I’m really looking forward to Lapce maturing and becoming stable.

I used Atom as a heavy duty text editor first with excellent multicursor addon. VScode/ium takes more IDE approach and is too heavy as a standalone text editor. Also the multicursor implementation lacks the most crucial shortcuts make it not a viable replacement for the workflow.

Would a fork of Atom basically be the process of fission?

I am sad to see atom go. I used it all throughout college and it was always my go to. It had a ton of super useful plugins I used all the time. But I don't really use it anymore. My job is all Unity and C# so It's visual studio for me. And by extension, visual studio code. If I get back into writing C or python code, maybe I'll give pulsar or zed a try.

I am still using vscode for refactoring but for writing stuff I switched to neovim.

damn, I have long since switched to Sublime, but atom was always a nice editor that I used to use a bunch! major rip, that hurts a little. I think the greatest benefit of atom was its packages, use to open it up every now and then just for them, really sad.

I might considder Zed depending on if it uses electron, or anything web based, or if it is native.

Microsoft redirects don't work?

Shocking! 😂

I used to use Atom all the time, so i might go and get pulsar should i find myself needing a code editor down the line. will be interesting to see what zed becomes though. I do think it is smart of the zed team to be thinking of monetising at least aspects of their project as that will see them able to develop freely, unhindered. Hopefully.

Thanks for the info on pulsar! Atom was one the first editors I used when I first started programming. I was pissed at Microsoft for discontinuing it.

I've went from using Atom to Vim. Vim has been really nice working with

I am just going ham on the neovim config, almost the same functionality as vscode at this point while being better in other,
only thing I am missing is find in files(haven't had time to configure it yet).

What do they/you think about Project Jupyter? Is it yet another competition? lol

i just use vscode because im too used to windows and m$' (almost) proprietary code editor.
i did try codium/code-oss before, and, as you can expect from a user like me, i was too lazy to actually download vscode store exclusive extensions manually.
i do still use codium on my debian install that hasn't been booted for like at least 2.5 weeks at this point.
