In technical terms, web 1.0 was about web servers serving static web pages to end users. Web 2.0 was the creation of application servers that contained the application logic which facilitates creating, reading, updating & deleting data to & from a database.

Web 2.0 was the evolution of the internet to an application platform so I still don't understand why people refer to web applications as websites; most are the former. The primary function of a web server is to serve web pages, whereas application servers allowed for the two way communication process.

The next version of HTTP, (HTTP2) is a binary protocol with multiplex implementations. This is to facilitate real time communication as the next stage of the web (the internet of things) will be based on machines communicating with each other in an automated fashion.
