I’m curious about the Wi-Fi / App features… such as, do you get notifications on the app when you’re away from home?

READ CAREFULLY if you buy the interconnected X-Sense devices. Unlike the stand-alone device, the interconnected ones use a CR123A - battery which you replace in about 5 years. This means it does not qualify as a 10 year sealed device. Therefore, where I live a home inspectors would fail to sign off on any construction I may do until I replace them. Even worse, my home owners insurance might be able to not cover me because I did something that was against code. So, while I would like the interconnectivity the X-Sense offers, I'm not risking my insurer using such a technicality to not cover me if there was a fire. I love the idea of interconnected device (all sound off if one does) since my house is large but it looks like my only option is to have them hard-wired.

This was not helpful for me at all. He is explaining why the X-Sense is better which makes sense but then he chooses the one that lacks the main feature!

The kidde announces CO vs Fire. Also kidde makes a unit that displays ppm. Regardless this industry needs a shakeup with better detectors.

The display on the x-sense is cool, looks like it might be hard to see once the device is installed on the ceiling. I did just purchase three X-sense CO alarms.
An employee at a large cryogenics company I worked for had a natural gas leak in their home and his whole family perished.

I have three First Alert ceiling mounted detectors and one portable Kidde unit with an LED front display. The Kidde alarm sounds at a much lower threshold than my ceiling mounted detectors and it issues an audible alert, which is really nice. The Kidde detector alerted me to a CO problem with my gas furnace. Apparently the level in my house was 27 ppm due to a cracked heat exchanger. I replaced my furnace just a few days ago.

Kidde has ULC for Canada. X-Sense - UL only.

The X-Sense is not tested and not UL listed, I would not use them and will be sending mine back to Amazon.

I’ve had the worst experiences with First Alert. Both smoke and the combos. Every single one that’s I’ve had goes off constantly for no reason. And I don’t mean the CO detector one either. I mean their smoke only systems have been brand new out of the box and within a couple of months of having them they start to go nuts and won’t stop. It’s gotten so bad that I’ve had to remove them pretty often. Not a good feeling when it’s your house and your family you’re trying to protect. Basically what brought me here and now that I hear you say Kidde is part of first alert I am glad I didn’t purchase them. I do have 2 Kidde alarms in my house and those are the only 2 that have never given me an issue thank god. Something is better than nothing. I’ll keep looking though

Most of the firefighters that I know barely graduated high school. That's why they're firefighters. Only single digit IQ required. I would never ever ask their advice about anything except fighting fires. And even
