Ireland’s result was in my opinion the biggest shock ever in Women’s rugby

I'm so annoyed at myself for not staying up for the Ireland v NZ game - I went to bed thinking "NZ will probably win by 30 points or so" and began calculating how that would affect the table. Then, upon checking the WXV site as I woke up, what a shock! Immediately scanned YouTube for the highlights and wow, what a game, what a result for Ireland!

I've been feeling that Ireland have been on the verge of greatness for sometime now, despite some very one-sided results against the likes of England. This game proved that they can punch well above their weight and this result on it's own totally validates the WXV as a great tournament to have the in the calendar.

So good to see them doing so well :)

USA's first try against England, in my, not considerable, opinion, is the best try of the WVX1 tournament, to date.

Really enjoying the WXV 1 Tournament, all the games have been exciting, there is definitely more running rugby in the women's game.

USA should take confidence from scoring 3 tries against the world #1, despite the fact we didn’t get out of 3rd gear - except for Jess Breach’s try which was first class, and Ellie of course. Using this game to give the wider squad game time was crucial and should help us down the road. It was always going to be clunky, but winning ugly sometimes is an important skill in itself. What about Wyrwas’s interception?

I thought France would run Canada much closer, and it was nip & tuck for a while, but Canada really showed up for the home fans. Their 13 had a great game, alongside their 5 & 14. Based on that performance Canada have to be favourites for this weekend but Ireland have proven you can’t write them off.

As an Englishman with Irish heritage I’ve always supported Ireland too and it’s been such an incredible 12mths for them since Scott Bemand came in. WXV 1 was clearly a step too far for Wales last year but Ireland have come to compete and absolutely smashed it. NZ were a long way off their best but Ireland’s determined defence wouldn’t allow them to be. Ireland’s play wasn’t necessarily pretty, the wingers didn’t see much of the ball, but 2 identical tries from Wafer & 2 identical tries from King showed they knew how to play to their strengths.

France have to be better v USA but should have enough. NZ have to be better v England but won’t have enough with the likes of Marlie, Mo, Heard & Dow coming back in. Canada and Ireland will both want to step up but to be honest if they both perform like that again anything could happen. Cannot wait 🌹

the kiwi coaches did not even know the names of the irish girls coming into this match . lack of respect was shocking . kiwis eating humble pie is wonderful . and young wafer is some bloody player

You didn't mention that England had 7 replacements two of them being making their debut so a little inconsistency should have been expected.
