It’s NOT random …. Someone had motive, experience, skills and knowledge

Maybe terminated employee. Person has experience operating equipment.

They know who did it. Something like this does not randomly happen to this degree.

Its time that they built real locks onto these machines. You have equipment worth millions and all runs on the same key, thats just crazy.

Who benefits from this company not being able to finish this job?

Well there's two possibilities here.... I wondered If they low bald a contract and pissed somebody off or quite possibly decided to fire a disgruntled employee....

That had to take some time to do that much damage. I would think there's people living close by and they would've heard all the noise. It would've been very loud. Hope they find them and punish them to the max. Who would have a master key anyway? I didn't know there was such a thing for heavy equipment?

This is never a random occurrence, this is clearly personal

Company competitor
Recently fired employees
And I’m amazed the windows are busted- who would have thought. 🤷🏼‍♂️

You would think that the construction company would take greater measures to ensure this doesn't happen. Isn't there some way to lock the gear box (or whatever you call the controls) into place to keep it from moving even if it's started? No security cameras hidden anywhere?

Too bad the greater Seattle area does not enforce laws or punish criminals.

"I know how we can get new/better equipment"

I think it's was someone who lives nearby and we're getting sick of the construction noise.

I'd see what other companies had bids on that job

That is a shame all those pieces of equipment people so messed up

I got a question why doesn’t the construction site manager either make it impossible for the equipment to be started or take the batteries out

It shouldn't set anyone back another million. If they didn't have insurance they shouldn't have been left there without a night watch.

If they used the Hitachi machine. Hitachi has their own keys. But they are the same for 5, 6 and 7 series.
Now you can have a personal code for starting the machine... I do not know if the company had that on that particular machine... If they didn't it would have been easy to start it..
But if they did only a few people would know it.. And that would narrow down the search significantly...

Construction equipment is easily hotwired. Takes less than 5 minutes to figure out basic controls.
