Mass hysteria is a very real phenomenon with very hard to identify causes. Whether an entire town can't stop dancing or people suddenly start worrying about minor marks on their windshields, these seemingly unbelievable events have had some surprising (and sometimes devastating) effects.

Don't forget a couple of more modern dancing plagues, like the Macarena and Gangnam Style

I remember that my high school started late one day because there was reportedly a clown in the football field. What a time to be alive.

Salem MA actually has a memorial site a few blocks down from where the gallows once stood (which is now a sports field I believe), for the victims of the Salem Witch Trials. While few people might still care for that sort of thing (seeing how the rest of Salem is mostly dedicated to making money off of the witch history), I find it nice that such a site exists and made sure to visit it when I was on holiday in the area.

Professor Matthias Desmet has observed that the zombie like frenzy of masking, quarantining and then the rush to embrace an untested medical intervention is the latest iteration of Mass Hysteria. We had an epidemic of generalized societal anxiety and a sudden (convenient) universal cause that provided moral purpose and scapegoats all at once.

Western countries appear to be suffering at the moment in a belief in that there are more than two genders hysteria. I find it fascinating the types of people who fall for these hysterias to go against literally centuries of scientific facts is mind blowing to me.

Geography! Bellingham, WA is ~2 hours north of Seattle, 1 hour south of Vancouver, BC. It would be the NW corner of the state if don’t include the peninsula. It acts as a hub for some Cruise ships

Very neat video! I noticed a small error: at about the 6 minute mark, you say that Bellingham, WA is in northeast Washington, when in fact it is in northwest Washinton!

(pssst Bellingham is in northwestern Washington not northeastern)

You never mentioned the Orson Wells "War of the World" panic back in the 1920's. Also, I love clowns. Always have. Red Skelton was a personal favorite of mine and his clown Freddy the Freeloader. I got to see him live in Vancouver and it was the best show I have ever seen.

But this doesn't explain why every time my boss starts to talk to me, I feel a need to dance my way out of his office.

I had a classmate who dressed up as a clown during the clown panic in Wisconsin! He got thoroughly questioned by police, but nothing came of it since he wasn't breaking the law.
Personally, I like clowns! More traditional clowns as opposed to carnival clowns, but still
