This video is not correct. As long the insured (customer) doesn't delay moving the car to a salvage yard, the insurance company won't deduct towing costs from the value of your vehicle.

Each state also has a set formula as to when a car is considered a total loss.

As for what your car is "worth" we are not talking what you can sell it for, but ACV. ACV is actual cash value less depreciation.
