When I was younger I would go to dinner parties with my parents and my dad’s male friends would look at me in a very predatory way and say inappropriate things in front of my parents. They never even reacted. And I worry if something had happened they would have just blamed me or ignored me cos I was a kid. It made me feel very uncomfortable so I started dressing more conservatively in front of any of my parents friends and generally staying away until the dinner party was over. My parents were there and they didn’t protect me. Parents are very complicit in sexual abuse and that is not spoken about enough. If I bring it up now my parents don’t even remember or tell me I’m making things up. Do not assume that parents protect their children.
