I love pea soup! When i did my national service here in Sweden it tasted so good with hot pea soup after long cold winter days in the Swedish woods. It's cheap and nutritious, perfect soldier food.

Fridays used to be fast day for Catholic, medieval Europe and so they had to eat a nutritious meal on Thursday to manage it. That's where pea soup comes in play!

I remember having it every Thursday at school whilst in Sweden. Though I did usually swap my soup for extra pancakes haha!

I LOVE pea soup! Don't know if you knew this Steve, but pea soup was Swedish author August Strindberg's (1849 - 1912) favorite food. He even referred to is as "food of the Heavens" if I remember correctly.

Personally, I really love pea soup with lots of pork - and mustard to the soup is a must. Crisp bread with cheese and pancakes for dessert and there's a perfect Thursday lunch. :)

Soldatens ärtsoppa is the best one, but if you add some mustard in it, it will taste even better!

you should check out some traditional Czech meals if THIS makes you little bit sick. (although you said it was quite a good taste actually). We have some hardcore shit down here!!! :D (tho we love it!!) (also BEER!!!)

Here in the States, we might sometimes eat split pea soup, which seems very much as you described in this video.  Tastes pretty good, even if it does look a tad off.  Never tried it with the other stuff, though.
