VW California Surf - A NEW T6.1 Campervan Model 2023
Despite Volkswagen ceasing production of the panel van and the Kombi, they are still producing California's and have introduced a BRAND NEW model, the California Surf. It seems closer matched to the VW California Ocean
Is this purely due to components being unavailable for certain parts and this model can be produced quickly without the wait for the components.
Certainly seems to make sense and very clever from Volkswagen. Great Marketing.

I personally like this vehicle, but would I buy one? (Not in Bayleaf Green I can't)
I spec up a camper van to see what options are available and how much it would cost.

These are Motor Caravan registered on the log book, but they aren't the only Type Approved camper vans you can buy. Others are also NCC Approved.

The VW T6.1 California will soon be replaced (not yet announced) by the Ford Volkswagen partnership vehicle. There wont be too many more T6.1 Campervans produced.

I bought a VW Transporter T6 Kombi Highline van 140bhp diesel SWB with tailgate.

I have lots more to do though, I have a new electrical system, using Victron components and a Lithium LIFEPO4 battery, so I obviously need to install some power devices. I have a new sound system, with Focal speakers and ibus 2.1 amp, Playstation PS4, which will be removable, TV's on headrests.

Lots for me to look forward too and it would be nice to take you on the journey.

Vanlife for me is just beginning, it's a great adventure and I'm loving it. 😍

Just some remarks as the owner of a t6.1 4 motion Beach. Im surprised the Surf comes standard with the electric roof, i would run away from it just on the basis of complexity to fix down the road but i guess its really handy for smaller people and older people. It is ironic that something called Surf cant be specced with 4motion, among us that actually surf, we use 4motion daily because of sand and hard to get surf spots. Forget about DCC and invest instead in the reinforced anti roll bars, its a good passive way of having a van that corners without feeling like you are in a boat. Always spec the 235/55/17 tyres, far better road holding and surprisingly far more confortable than the 215/60. Forget about the upgraded stereo, the speakers and the door insulation are the same, and they are the limiting factor in the sound quality.

I ordered my T6.1 Panelvan last day of September 2022 with digital cockpit and twin captain swivel seats. On October 1st they stopped the twin swivel seats on panel vans! So lucky I made it to order my dream base van! What a pity you are making the videos on how to choose it only now, I hope I made the right choices😊

I bought a brand new T6.1 Ocean at start of 2021. We wouldn't swap it for any other vehicle, love it. I bought through Auto ebid and saved 7k on list adwell!

I specced up my van as a kombi camper from van haven. I have a lwb 204 dsg highline with more options than you can poke a stick at .absolutely love my swomper camper 🤟

I specced mine to £72, 284. I'm one of those who can't stand adaptive cruise or lane assist. The only thing I'd miss are the folding mirrors. Charging extra for plain white is very poor show.

Can't seem to find out if the Surf comes with the picnic table and chairs, anyone know if it does? Not a deal breaker just wondering...

I would still go for a type approved conversion as I did 12 months ago! Better value, better quality, better looking than VW own.

While it is a nice van, why would anyone consider it when the T7 Cale is just round the corner
