This is one of the best vids you have made. I would love to see more on traditional pocket knives. I know that the tactical knife has a wow and cool factor with super steels and synthetic handle slabs( nearly all are BLACK) has a huge following, but there is a lot to be said about the beauty and craftmanship of a traditional knife(Case, Queen, etc.) that has over 200 hand opperation in its prodution by fine Amercan cutlers.

Brought back memories of my Grandfather giving me my first buck knife on a fishing trip. I was about 9 or 10. I had no idea at the time how great a gift it was.

my very first knives were slipjoints. i had quite a few stockmans, hawkbills, whittlers, and trappers. i wish i still had them; most were pre-WWII made, and a few no doubt were used. the were given to my dad by an old neighbor, who's husband was in the Navy during WWII. my dad gave me some of the knives that were in the collection.

i still carry a slipjoint; it's an old stockman that i found by the river near my home. it was made by Imperial Cutlery back in the 1960's.

Love that kissing crane! I think that it's so cool that there are knives out there that look the part, but are still affordable. Anyway, thanks for the videos Jeff, getting close to the 1000 vids mark now!

Thanks for showing this, I'm a big fan of slipjoints. I've got a nice one my grandfather left me. It's about an inch in length (closed), with a clip point blade. I'm not sure the steel of the blade, but I do know the handle scales are bone. Really nice knife, and for it's size the blade stock is actually pretty large.

I have never used a lock blade and have never had any problems. The only thing I have that locks is my Gerber Multitool that I bought at Smokey Mountain Knife works a few months ago. Love the place.

Great vid, Jeff. Case makes a ton of great slip-joint knives. I love their small Texas Toothpicks. U could kill 2 birds with 1 stone and pick up a new Zippo in Bradford while on your knife hunt.

My favorite knives are slip-joints. Bladeforums traditional sub forum is my hang out!

The toothpick looks a lot like a laguiole knife, which are also very nice collectors pieces.

Smoky Mountain Knife Works is a great store. I can spend hrs in there.
Also FYI if you ever get to Eastern TN and plan on going to the store, Check out the Coleman Store and the Lodge Cooking store, All are great for "Man Shopping"

I am 16, and I personally prefer Slipjoints over the tactical folders. I carry, saks mainly, but I do like the spring assisted blades and the fancy materials, But I think that locks really aren't necessary, I see myself using my Knives for yard work (wood saw) opening boxes more than I defend myself. Stockmans are freaking classy, in a different way compared to saks, both are great. I'd say Victorinox spring retention is the gold standard but the slipjoints are are so beautiful.
