Like all Hexbug products, it uses vibration to run around in random patterns. There are two play modes: Paw Play Mode and Chase Mode. To activate Paw Play Mode, hold down the button on the bottom of the mouse. In Paw Play Mode, the mouse wakes when the cat touches it and restarts the play pattern. To turn on Chase Mode, push the button. In Chase mode, the mouse pauses randomly five times and wakes when the cat touches it to restart the play pattern. Another great feature about this toy is that if it is flipped onto its back, it will right itself.

You know...it's very hard to find a good automated toy these days for a cat.
Especially, one that keeps a cat interested for very long.
But, this little mouse is genius!
My cat beats the crap out of it!

The instructions are a little confusing and for me were compounded by a faulty battery connection that caused the mouse to turn off randomly, or when attacked by the cats and require the button to be pressed again.

Here's the scoop:

Chase mode: Press the button once briefly. Mouse will move - stop - move - stop. While stopped if the cat attacks it it will start moving again immediately. Eventually without interaction I think it stops until attacked again.

Paw play mode: Press the button and hold it down a few seconds (not quite sure how many, try 3). Mouse will move and then stop after a short while. It will not move subsequently until attacked.

You probably want to start with chase mode until they cat(s) get used to what it does, then try paw play mode. Once they know it's a play thing they may attack it independently without movement. It also means you can leave it around activated waiting for them to play without draining the battery.

I wish there was a third mode where it would sleep for a long while and occasionally wake up and move a little, say every five to ten minutes. Just to draw their attention but without draining the battery too much.

I don't understand the difference between paw play mode and chase mode. Both the mouse wakes when the cat touches it and restarts the play pattern. I am doing both holding the button and just pressing the button and I am not seeing any difference in the way the mouse acts.

So far just got it yest. For my 2 cats n the ears broke on me just trying to turn it on..I put it in a wheel shaped toy w those balls w bells in it so at least the toy wouldn't get stuck under a couch or maybe I'll try it in the tub n let them play there ...the tail being thin is attractive to my 1 cat he thinks he should eat it - dont like that at all...

IT'S A LIE. This thing does not work. Very disappointed. Does not turn back on it's feet and does not run in random patterns it runs in a idiotic circle and my highly intelligent cat figured that out after 0.2 ms and got annoyed by this stupiodity. I would like to throw it in a trash can or send it back for money return. Really disappointed both me and the cat!
