If you’re new to the keto diet, or you’re considering it, here’s what you need to know. There are several reasons why you need to do the ketogenic diet. One of them is longevity. Any time you go on a diet, think long-term. Is it sustainable? Because most people go off diets because they aren’t sustainable, primarily because of your cravings.

One of the best things about keto is that you’ll lose your cravings. When you do, you’ll be able to stay on keto long term because you’ll no longer succumb to the temptations of bread, pasta, cereal, and the like.

Next, does keto work? Does it get results? Yes, because keto corrects the root cause of why you’re overweight in the first place, which is because you have too much insulin in your body. Doctors never test this hormone level, but if they did, you’d discover your insulin is too high through what is called a fasting insulin test.

Insulin is a fat-making hormone; in its presence, you can’t burn fat. The ketogenic diet corrects your insulin level, allowing you to get into fat-burning mode and speeding up your metabolism so you can lose weight. It gets you past your set point that you seem stuck at.

Is keto safe? Maybe you’re concerned about its high fat component because it’ll clog your arteries and cause a heart attack. But it’s not really a high-fat diet; what makes it work is lowering your carbohydrates. I’m talking about sugars, not vegetables.

Now, there’s a version called dirty keto, in which you can eat whatever you want as long as you keep your carbs down. When you lower carbs, you normalize insulin. The benefits of this are huge. They include:

● Decreasing fatty liver
● Lowering visceral fat
● Decreasing inflammation
● Increasing oxygen; when you consume high carbs, you have more carbon dioxide (C02) but less oxygen
● Lowering free radicals
● Improving brain cell function, cognition, memory, focus, concentration

If you add the healthy keto version, you take it to the next level because you’ll be getting the nutrients you need to improve and support your health. And as I say, it’s all about getting healthy to lose weight, not losing weight to get healthy. If you lose weight in an unhealthy way, you may end up not looking very good. With keto, you can keep the weight off and promote longevity.

I’ve been following your suggested version of Keto, since January! Everything you say can happen is coming true. Thank you! I’m coming to the Summit. I’ve lost 45 lbs. I’m no longer pre diabetic, my chronic heartburn is gone, my high blood pressure is in a normal range, my knees don’t hurt anymore, my brain is clearer, I have more balanced energy, I’m off of my antidepressants, I’m sleeping well at night, and my husband is soooo grateful I no longer snore like a freight train! My sister got on keto & has lost so much weight & still losing!

The AMAZING thing is my Sister didn't have a Menstrual cycle for over 12 or so years & she is not old enough to have been going through menopause, well After a Month or so on Keto her Cycle came & has been on track every sense.

Dr. Berg you are the Best, I have passed along all your Videos on Keto to my Sister & she can't thank me enough.

Lastly her Doctor's wanted to put her on all these man made medications to bring her cycle down & I Convinced her to do Keto & do it exactly how Dr. Berg says & Your Health will Change for the BETTER & It Did !

Great video on the basics of keto! Many of these benefits are not well understood by the public. I especially like the decrease in free radical damage with the ketogenic diets. This is something that we preach to our patients all the time. That is usually a huge motivator for getting people to adapt to our system.

Idk why people say keto is difficult. I really enjoy having steak, ground beef patties, salmon, bacon, eggs, along with delicious and simple salads, asparagus, brussels, broccoli. And I love cheese! I do miss sweets, but there’s options for that too.

Last year with intermittent fasting plus Keto I lost 55 pounds in 3 months. I kept the weight off for awhile but got depressed due to life and what not. So I’ve gained about 30 pounds back but I’m definitely getting back to Keto and staying on it. Thank you Dr. Berg

Keto is great for some but not necessary for most, you can do OMAD and get all the weight loss and health benefits of ketosis while still eating carbs, just stay away from refined stuff.

Dr. Berg, I think this is your best beginner video yet!! I owe my success to you, I started Keto and Intermittent Fasting 3 months ago and I'm down 45lbs. I lost 27 lbs. in the 1st month all without even exercising. I also drink your ACV recipe 2 times a day.
