This video introduces pupils at the early stages of learning to read and spell to the idea of putting two consonant letters (non-vowels) together and blending them. In this video, we introduce 'sw' and 'sk'. We learn to blend the letters and then look at some things that begin with those letters.
Finally, we learn to spell one word for each consonant blend, 'swim' and 'skip'.
At this stage, we do not expect a child to read or spell words with these blends unless they have a short vowel sound. This builds a sense of achievement.
