Demystifying Copyright

For my capstone project, I delved into modern copyright law and its impact on digital content creators. I conducted research examining legal texts, academic papers, and identified notable case studies to provide real-world context and some depth to the topic. The main goal of this project was to Demystify copyright law, making it more accessible and understandable for digital creators. By highlighting the issue and proposing potential solutions, I attempted to strike a balance between perspectives and address both sides. I wanted to create a resource that not only educates but also empowers creators to navigate the legal copyright landscape with more confidence. I created a long-form essay that I then turned into a script for the video, making the final deliverable a video essay. Similar to content from TED-ed or Vox.
The video provides a historical overview of copyright law, discusses current challenges faced by creators, and offers practical advice to reach a middle ground. I tried to focus on making the content engaging as well as easy to understand, helping creators feel more secure in their creative projects and better equipped to handle legal issues, if they arise. I uploaded the video to YouTube, my hope is that it reaches a broad audience and sparks meaningful discussions. Hopefully contributing to the ongoing conversation about copyright laws.
