After 2 days of trying to figure out how to remove a stripped bolt on a water pump I used a Dremel as well and FINALLY pulled it out! Thank you so much for the tip!!! You really made my day!!

Torx bolts...the dumbest idea of the last 40 years.

I've also removed stuck and stripped bolts with a center punch and hammer. If you have free access you drive the center punch in at an angle near the edge of the bolt head. Several sharp blows with the hammer will often loosen the bolt enough to screw it out. The larger the head the easier this works. Cutting a slot is easier and faster but only if you have a tool to cut the slot. Usually takes more than five minutes either way.

Worked like a charm! Also. Give your torx a slight turn clockwise first if you can to break it loose. And then proceed to go clockwise and loosen. Thanks again.

I've been doing this all the time. I was hoping to see a different method. But this obviously is the best and yes! It does work extremely well. Well done.

You are the man for this. I almost went out and bought more tools but had a Dremel laying around.

What I found to penetrate better then PB Blaster is plain old transmission fluid. put a little in an oil can and just a little squirt will do. I find that it penetrates faster than anything out on the market. Another great video no more expensive extractors.

Thank you!
the only other video on removing a stripped out one of these tells you to buy some $250 special kit to do it. This is much better.

THANK YOU
I had to use some Needle Files to remove enough metal for the Flat head to fit...
Took awhile but it worked...

Yessir, this is a good tip and to add just one more little hint/tip to this, go get yourself some 'hollow ground' screw driver bits, ( like gunsmiths usually use )these bits make it a whole lot easier to get a positive grip in that slot. The standard straight blade screwdrivers are actually a slanted bit, and they can 'cam' themselves right up and out of the slots.'

Thanks! Worked! 👍👍👍 I used a dremel and diamond wheel. Took less than 5 minutes. FYI ... I’m a woman! Lol It was stripped and tight as ever. Happy! Was on a tail light I needed to replace a backup bulb.

Saved my butt. Thanks a million. Didn’t have a Dremel but I used a universal tool with a metal cutting adapter

I just stripped a T30 bolt for a camshaft cap on my 3.6L JKU. Might give this a try.

Was going to wait a day or two for my neighbor to help by welding a nut on to the bolt head. Thoughts on the weld method vs this in the video?

I have used this method quite a few times. My favorite was on a one way screw on the back of my microwave oven. You see, it made a horrible high-pitched beeping sound at every keypad press and 5 freaking times when finished cooking. I had to get that beeper out and damn it, I did.

That's why you change out all the stupid torx bolts right asap with less likely to strip common bolts before they become a PITA to remove later.

The easier way is to use a product called DriveGrip, made by Vibra-Tite. Just put a drop on the tip of your phillips, allen, torx, or whatever driver, and bear down. Nearly always works. The grit in the thick liquid will bite into the screw or bolt, and into the tool and give you many times the friction. Odorless, too. Available from Fastenal, McMaster, Grainger, etc. Once you've tried it, you'll never want to be without it! Comes in a 0.5 oz. tube and should be in every toolbox.
