Ray Dalio and Garry Kasparov chat AI. Artificial intelligence is making more and more of our decisions for us. Is this capacity limitless or are there some things only human intuition can determine?

The most fascinating part is that Ray Dalio is open to all positions and directions like a true investor.

This is a great interview, not a lot of other talks have Ray talking so much about when he will / wont use ML. It's also informative of another important fact: Garry Kasparov made it to the top of the chess world and is obviously very intelligent. However, this discussion is about both macro economics and AI, things he has no professional experience in. And it shows. He's clearly earnest and excited talking to Ray about these things but his talking points just feel kind of immature. It seems like Ray is continually trying to bring the conversation back to reality and he ends up being more insightful because of it.

0:49 By 'criteria for making decisions', Dalio means that I should write down all the truths/facts (Dalio calls them 'principles') that serve as the premises/reasons for my ultimate conclusion/decision.
1:11 "And then encoding them..." How do I encode my premises?

"decision rule"? "rule" meaning?

"The computer is making decisions with Dalio's criteria, for the most part."

4:34 does dalio agree?

5:39 "closed system"
"machine learning will normally produce algorithms" Is this a truth? Is this correct?

"You can come up with algorithms yourself...express them as I do"
To Dalio, an algorithm is a step-by-step method (I think usually to solve a problem, a step-by-step solution, to achieve the goal - which is to solve some kind of problem, for the existence of a goal implies a problem)? (like a cookbook recipe)
"Or you can have the machine come up with algorithms. Those algorithms are not readily understandable. So when the decision is when you can trust the algorithm, I think you can trust the algorithm if you have enough sample size in a closed system. "

"sample size" meaning?
"closed system" meaning?
"a situation where the future can be different from the past"

A bit before 7:22, what does Dalio mean by "deep understanding"?

9:06 The main issue is: "Where does the algorithm come from? It can come from your brain or it can come from machine learning." Algorithm = step by step solution?

"What I found to be really effective is to take a really intelligent person AND put a great coder/great engineer next to that person and have this partnership so that that thinking can be expressed, rather than just in words, but in this new language that is so important, that everybody in the new generation speaks, which is code. So you can take words and you can put it into code and bring that about as a very effective way. (But?), If there's not a closed system, you can still do terrific algorithms. The power of that is enormous."
in this scenario, who do you think earns more money, ask james.

10:49 sentence meaning? "Bring in that wisdom?"
"i'm gonna go the other route" what is this route?

"The understandability of algorithms is a tremendously powerful force"

11:19 lol kasparov wasn't listenign to/didn't understand dalio. his mind was thinking about what to say the whole time, he just continuted on and tunneled on the 'generation' word. cf. how to listen by adler

Proof that someone wasn't listening is the impatience of the words they say after you stop talking. if they immediately talk after you finished speaking, they weren't listening

12:43
12:27 "people that are not great experts in coding and not so savvy with this technology"

13:00 ENTP dalio is good at hand gestures

14:13 "Machine learning will shrink the number of people who are employed" I need to figure out if this is a truth

14:20 There is no good plan. There is not even a bad plan. There is no plan lol

21:37 doesn't seem like he is listening haha

22:39 what does oscar wilde soul of man think

do 23:25 too
don't think 'technology', think 'engineering race'
the technology of the dutch were ships and guns

I am G-11 computer science student from PAKISTAN and want to continue my career in AI and I am quite inspired by making computers take decisions and predictions i agree with every thing these 2 people said but now I want to tell you guys who are in my comment Tell me what ll gonna happen if robots get any issue or may be some 1 spreads virus or program them in the was that the robots go for destruction in all around the world just think about it we are using AI in the future for almost every think related to basic human needs i mean in every field but we should think about it that if we use AI in every field we may face issues related to unemployment and stuffs so I think we should use the AI and ROBOTS to make humans life easy but I think making robots in large number and trying to think that once AI will completely launched it will be good for every thing but I think we are doing a big mistake if we use AI in every field it can get big crises to us so thanks for those if u have read my comment and i would like if some 1 wants to have a conversation with me about AI and ROBOTICS
WITH thanks SHERYAR KARIM

Does anyone think that Ray Dalio looks like the genius Special agent Lundy of the HBO Dexter TV series?

Ray dalio predicting in 2018 a economic crisis in 1-3 years. Happened just at his mid-range.

is this Garry Kasparov the chess world champion who challenged IBM 's deep blue and the lost in the 1990s?

Why does this guy keep interrupting Ray like he’s smarter than him... haha

16:02 It's that true? This is outragous. Why Americans don't like to save? $400? Don't tell me they don't have enough income.

This host has problem with communicating and listening. The worse host ever, no matter how smart he is. He shouldn’t be interviewing people.

I think the host in the show doesn' t have a manner .... So annoying. Even his questions are on the low level.
