It’s true. I worked for Capitol Records in LA in the 80s and people talk. If someone isn’t reliable, everyone gets to know, and after a while nobody will hire them. What he didn’t say was that music is a cutthroat business which is all about the dollar, and music is a magnificent, evil, monstrous bitch Queen who is both glorious and horrid to work for. Music chews up and spits out almost everyone who gets too close.
