This dog is A LOT like a dog I am working with named Meathead. Same size too. This video was extremely helpful.

Thanks! This is my 2 year old intact labrador exactly. He has gotten much better since recall improved, but swimming combined with playing makes his (rough but controlled at baseline) play aggressive due to overstimulation. The explanation of hormone levels helped so much, and the possibility of shutting down due to overcorrection was a good reminder.

This is one subject I have struggled to learn more about - this is my situation with my XL AmBully. She gets over excited with vets pet shops trains buses 😢 hoping this will help us now! Thank you!!

Great video, Brian, with lots of valuable explanation and visual examples of the levels of excitement and how you work with that

This is a great video! I'm currently working with my pitbull to calm down around my other dogs. I adopted him at 6 months and he had these exact issues with zero manners with other dogs. I've recently gotten a trainer and I'm working on obedience but I've been searching for ways to get him to calm down around my dogs. So glad I found this video! Hoping one day, I can allow them to just roam the house together without him getting so amped up all the time

Really good info Brian. Made the process clear and it makes so much sense!! I want to teach my dogs how to be good citizens not punish them for behaviors they don't understand are wrong.

Thank you for taking the time to explain such a complex concept. I know what to work towards now with my dog, it really helps to see how you manage the situation. I love your calmed leader's manner, I just wish I can get some of that too. Thanks again!

I've only just clicked that when my dog plays with a certain toy, it's sending her prey drive through the roof. I thought she just really loved that soccer ball! This video was so helpful about how I can help to manage it back down because it's been starting to cause major behavioural issues. Thank you!!

What do you do if he turns, jumps and bites hard on your hand out of frustration not getting to the other dogs like he wants? Struggling with this frustration-aggression due to severe hyperarousal in my 6 mos poodle.

My dobie used to be so reactive as she was attacked as a pup. However I one day noticed that she really likes the idea of playing with dogs but is just nervous around them. (she has some dog friends but she would bark at random dogs) I eventually bought her a muzzle and a 50 ft long line. then i started bringing her to the dog park. at first i just let her sniff through the fence then. a couple days later i brought her in on the long line. then i took off the long line another day. She recalled off an aggressive dog(they were in a solo part of the park and not around dogs) AND she even came and layed down by me and my family when she got tired. I used this method! Now i let her meet dogs on every walk we go on instead of avoiding them and she gets SO EXCITED and she doesn't bark at them anymore! She sometimes happy barks when i dont let her meet them but i just use this method and she leaves them alone! THANK YOU SO MUCH! YOU HAVE HELPED ME AND MY DOBERMAN! We now go to the dog park every Wednesday and to the beach in my town at least once a week! she has so many dog friends now and her focus on me has improved SO MUCH! It also has helped a lot with muzzle training because she knows shes going to have fun! Im also hopefully going to get an e collar soon!

I sub this channel because you take the time to explain like some trainers do. We get the inside scoop. We are dog lovers and owners; not trainers. But as parents we need to supplement what our dogs need.
Most dog “training” show nothing but before and after... like wow look how great the dog is now. What did the avg viewer learn? Zilch.
I have a dog just like Hapa... thanks!

My dog is very reactive towards people she knows and excited to see them also excited to see them in the house and fear muffles at noises in the house.

It's causing me a lot of frustration and anxiety. Been doing my best to train her but i don't know how to calm her down from these situations. She will muffle at me then maybe try to sneak around to go see the person etc. It's like all the training goes out the door when it comes to these situations

Can you tell me if you had worked on this "let's go" cue with this dog already/prior? I have a 6 month old dog with a high arousal level. He gets so excited around other dogs that he's almost obnoxious and many don't enjoy being around him. I would love to work on this but I can't imagine how I would get him called off of the dogs like that once he's interested in them and wanting to play. That pup seems to respond so readily to let's go it's extremely impressive.

I love this.I am getting a new puppy next month, he will probably be different than this dog because he has a rough collie, but I am going to follow your techniques because I do not want to neuter him. I have always rescued and neutered and spayed because it was "required" but I started to tease arch the terror of it more. I will not have a headstrong breed like this anymore. I also rawfeed because of a near death experience with my dog. I also have a pit mix that I wish you could've worked with because I have been through so many trainers here and her problems turned into aggression. I also have to say that I am a Collie owner all my life and generations in my family and do not like pit bulls anymore, having nothing to do with aggression. I should not have been the one to own her, but I kept her when I was younger because they were popular. There are a lot of things now that we're not available 11 years ago.

Awesome video Brian Agnew! Do you say “let’s go” then tap remote each time and apply my leash pressure at same time if needed? Then when you said “leave it” was there anything different that you did like a higher level tap? I think I’ll do this outside of dig parks then apply it on our dog walks. I don’t have access to calm stable dogs.

Man, even with the sadly cropped ears, you can still see his mindset change looking at them. They move back and flatten ever so slightly when you call him back. Even his body changes from when the other dogs first come in and he gets right up to them and later in the video when he goes up to them. A much different posture. Excited but with a friendlier mind set later as apposed to the first time which was more forward and chest puffed up sorta speak. Very interesting video. I'm really grateful to see this as I have a female PB that, from your description sounds just like him. Totally fine and submissive with our two Chi's. She's definitely a 'soft' dog (remote working level is about an 8 while at home). She's learned commands very fast (She's a 2 yr old rescue) But she's very reactive and really vocal when she sees other dogs, even at a distance of 500+yards.
So do you get the dog solid on commands first then slowly take them out and expose them at a distance to other dogs and recall/walk away until they calm down. Then repeat, hopefully working them closer as they remain calm? ( I don't have the benefit of having a well trained, balanced dog to work with like you've got with your personal dogs. But I need to fix her so she can fit in our life and worry the longer she goes like this the worse it will get or be impossible to correct)
I know this is an old vid, but if you can give some advise, it be a huge help and I'll pay it forward.
Thanks
Bert

Can you help a very soft
very cerebral
Very fearful ( he shuts down, shakes, or runs ) but I think pack driven ( he is always looking at me trying to communicate with me )…
Puppy mill rescue ?
He allegedly was pulled from the Amish barn at 7 months ( but we really don’t have all his history ) I got him from the rescue at 9 months old . I have had him 5 months and he is improving… but he has blocks .

When they pulled him from the barn he came with a sister he was bonded with but they had to separate them because they said “they exhibited pack behavior “

He really “wants” to learn he is a very very good dog … but he has this giant nervous system in the way 😢.
I am in NJ so would probably need on line consultation.
