I guess you can go too cheap with iphone clones.  I bought $100 iphone clone from china (1GB ram, IPS display, quad core mtk6582) and I am very happy with it, and after few months of use, it's still working fine.  I guess your $40 clone is like most of iPhone clones coming out of china few years ago.   Thanks for the info
