** IMPORTANT INFORMATION **

This was for my small, backyard wedding. I am speaking to the budget brides here - this is not something you can do at a big venue.

I should have done mine that way! We got a cheap “DJ” and he almost single handedly ruined our reception...he called my husband by wrong name all night even after being corrected. He also seemed to have no experience despite his wasn’t doing announcements as he was supposed to so our caterer stepped in and ran the event. Thank God for the multi tasking

This is exactly what my fiancé and I will be doing if we can get the live band we want - thank you for explaining how your timed each “segment” of the day, very helpful!!

“Before all the DJs come after me”.. for what exactly?!? That’s like a baker coming after you for making your own cake at home. Lol your choice

We were going to do an iTunes play list (pre Spotify). My bridesmaid whose dad is a DJ swore at me, and he did the wedding for free. Best ever. I would have been happy with a playlist, but he kept us to schedule, gave cues to the bridesmaids, added in some games. So much fun.

Spotify so much better than a DJ. We asked all our guests to provide a romantic song and a upbeat song so we had songs mixed in which our own guests chose. Loved it!

I did all the reception music for my wedding... in 2004. I burned multiple CDs, and borrowed my parents' home stereo with the giant speakers from the 90s. The cool part is I still have the 4 cds. So i have my whole wedding reception.

This sounds fine and like a good money saving decision but just to be clear... The bridesmaid was the dj in the scenario lol

Brilliant! Way to make the best of the situation. I love wedding stories that don't involve bridezillas. Those memories will be way better than where you try to control every tiny detail.

As fun as live DJ’s are time/dates and cost can be hard to get the right match. I think this is such a great way to do a wedding on a budget, or put more money towards something like more guests or a more expensive dress.

If you want to save money especially if your wedding is on the smaller side this is honestly such a cool idea and totally customizable!

Smartest idea ever! Save your money on a Dj and use it to pay for a photographer. Believe me years later you will be happy you did. photos last forever, the music you played at your wedding will not matter by the time the next day rolls around.

Ditto!! Had a small wedding at a restaurant on the beach; there would have been 0 space for a DJ booth/ equipment. We took that money and splurged on a photographer instead. No regrets 😊

My husband and I did pretty much this exact thing for our social hour, dinner, reception, not ceremony. We just had one friend who was our "tech guy" and he played music when needed and one friend who made announcements as needed. We used Spotify premium so no ads and we also did crossfade setting for everything. The special dance songs were on a separate playlist. The hardest parts to plan were grand entrance and the special dances but everything went very smoothly. We paid our friends a little tip for their kindness and generosity, so much better for our budget.

Did this for our wedding, we asked for a song request on the invites and made a Spotify playlist and it's great we still listen to the playlist occasionally

For my dad’s wedding, we used a bubble machine instead of flowers because the venue didn’t want flowers everywhere, and my brother had a sound system on wheels and pulled it behind him and was incharge of the music all day.

We did this 20 years ago with cds. Cd for cocktail hour, cds for dinner. Cds for dancing with our first dance song first. We spent less money on a refurbished bose stereo, which we still use today. It was loud enough for a good size venue. 100+ people.
