So I worked there in the early 80s and loved the zoo for what it was then. I can now see it’s progressed so much more and it’s so incredible. I’m so glad that you shared this with us. I happen to work in the Hixson Bird house too. Now 40 years later I own the largest reptile store in Oregon if you’re ever down to Bend I’d love for you to stop in and say hey.

This is one of America's best small zoos. I'm not from Texas but San Antonio is in my top 5 favorite American cities because I like family tourist destinations and San Antonio is very strong in that category. The zoo is charming and has an especially good reptile collection.

My opinion is going to the zoo is like going to an amusement park. It's not something you do everyday. With that, you expect to pay more for certain things. The difference with paying that extra bit of money to the zoo, is that you know it's going to a good cause and helping to maintain the care of all these wonderful animals. I personally have zero issue with the extra fees associated with getting closer to these amazing creatures. ❤ Great video Dāv!

I live about a hour from San Antonio and go there alot for shopping and stuff and I love our zoo and Brackenridge Park! (Hope you rode the train!) Our zoo is smaller the most but it really is a great place to go!

I work at the zoo and it's so cool to see you tour around it! The reptile collection is pretty amazing, a few months ago the psychedelic rock geckos actually had some babies!! There's a lot of expansion projects going on at the moment as well, soon there will be gorillas and other expanded habitats.

I'd absolutely love your take on the Indianapolis Zoo - I'm a Chicago local and recently stopped in Indianapolis on my way through town. The primate team seems to be absolutely incredible, but the rest of the zoo left me wishing for so much more.

The butterfly place was magical. They were flying and mating like crazy. Super active compared to others I’ve been too

Super excited to see that you visited the zoo in my hometown. And yes entrance is pretty pricey but we go when they have the $8 special, and don’t mind paying extra for our favorite exhibit

I visited this zoo back in 2012. Looks like lots of improvements and new areas that weren't there 12 yrs ago have been added. Zoos are my favorite places to go to see a small part of the world of animals & reptiles I'll never get to see in person in their natural habits.

Those "neon tetras" are actually Cardinal Tetras. They get bigger and have some color differences.

I love zoo’s! For years, we had a family membership to the Houston zoo. Sadly, we only went a couple times a year (summer in Houston is not a great time to hang out outside!) but I kept renewing it because I thought it was a better way to spend money than most of the stuff I was blowing it on. I let it lapse several years ago after my youngest moved out.

Its weird seeing a simi familiar sight of my local zoo.
7:45 oh i remember that spot. Last time i went i had a few friendly birds hanging out about 1ft away from me on the rails. 2 were even a parent and fledgling duo
Yeah the painted dogs aren't shy. They're usually sleeping or hanging out next to a wall when i visit the zoo
Fun fact, the long form of the name Hippo somewhat translates to water horse, but they're actually closer to dolphins than horses. So they're murderous river dolphins.
I remember the 1st time i saw that chipucabra. I had a huge start, i could feel my heart pounding for a few moments.
