I had an XR2 just like this one in black. Great car - watching this brings back good memories.

I used to have this car and in the same colour but my version was a Motorsport Xr2 Mk2. Motorsports were used in specific fords that were rally cars, so they made road legal rally spec Motorsport versions. One of my favourites was the Cosworth Motorsport RS Escort.

Had the same in black. Beautiful when polished and clean. Owned from new in 1989, one of the last, built in Valencia. F765 RTW. Such a fun car to drive. Heavy steering at low speeds, but the feedback was amazing … little nippy roller-skate. Got the Fiesta ST3 - again last of line Mk 8.5 now, obviously more power and performance, however the raw fun of the old XR2 is an unbeatable memory. This XR2 was a blast.

Sadly we never got these fantastic XR cars in the US. Only the Ford-based Merkur XR4Ti. I really want an Escort XR3i

I had two MK2 XR2's. My first XR2 was actually my first car when I was 17 and was exactly the same as the one in the video, Black with a red stripe and those iconic pepperpot alloys bog standard interior. Was a really lovely car to drive and reliable which was surprising for an 80's ford. Unfortunately some idiot crashed into me on a roundabout and the insurance company wrote the car off. The 2nd XR2 I had was the same spec but in Glacier Blue, It also had a red stripe, sunroof and black window surrounds but this one the body was in absolutely mint condition not a spec of rust anywhere, Unfortunately this one suffered from head gasket issues so much so that i got so used to taking the head off I could change the gasket in less than 40 mins that was when Halfords kept CVH head gasket sets in stock!!. I ended up buying a new engine and changing it in my home garage along with a good friend of mine, I still have the photos of doing that. Had some great times being 18 in that car, yes they were not the fastest "hot hatch" on the market, but they did handle well and they felt pretty solid. I would do anything to get my blue XR2 back, I even remember the old Reg... F64 SPX.. hard to think that was 18 years ago now... amazing how quickly time flies...

I’ve been a Ford fan most of my life . I had a newspaper advert for the new ford Orion ghia on my wall when I was 10 years old . My 1st car was an E reg XR2 in black back in 92 when I was 19 . I saved up hard for a few months to buy it . I paid £1800 for it from a showroom in mill hill nth London and the insurance cost me £2000 for 3rd party only for the 1st year . I spent loads on it . Jamex suspension, janspeed exhaust, new 3 spoke alloys . K&N air filter, cossie whale tail spoiler . Oh I miss them days. Southend cruise most Saturday nights . Lol 😂. Easily pull in them days😉 Blokes will understand. 😊

I had a grey one. E34 DJR. Like a little skateboard to drive, it held the corners so well. Cracking niche cars of the time, Ford really put out some great stuff in the 1980’s. XR 2, XR3, XR4 and then the RS flyers that were miles more expensive. The problem was you were never sure they were still gonna be where you’d parked them. Shocking how many times these cars were stolen by bloody joyriders.

I had one from new and hated it. Chopped it in for an MR2 after a year.

For all sake of common sense ... as an upload from 2018 .. this twice can't never be 'Nostalgia' .. it was yesterday maybe the day before .. even when I was dreaming of the MkIi Fiat 127 Sport .. so do me a favour and keep the decades right . good video b.t.w. 😉
