One of the most common mistakes that catches new riders off guard and often leads to a crash is an accidental whiskey throttle. Your wrist is stuck in a position where you are unable to let go of throttle and the bike takes off on you 🚀.

Here are 3 easy tips that will keep you safe on your bike:

Tip 1: Wrist Position
Make sure you don’t over grip the throttle and keep your wrist in a neutral position.

Tip 2: Seating Position
Sitting in front of the bike with your elbows slightly bent so you are able to react when the bike takes off on you. Sitting too far back is the most common reason for people to whiskey throttle on a dirt bike.

Tip 3: Finger on the Clutch
Keep your index finger on the clutch lever so you can react quickly, pull in the clutch and get your bike back under control.

I whiskey throttled before this LOL.
I learned my lesson after the wind was knocked out of me, a couple lacerations, and tons of bruises...
Your tip about the clutch and wrist position are lifesavers though, thank you a ton. 💪

Hopped on a surron the other day and did this twice in a row.... mind you I've never ridden dirt bikes before.... such a stupid mistake, your videos have definitely helped me learn how to safely get into the sport/hobby of dirt bikes thank you

Great tips amigo!
Depending on the bike, some with carbs are touchy off idle because the overall rotation from idle to full open is small and the cable cam is round. Slow speed control is improved by contouring the cable cam so that diameter is small at relaxed and lobes up at full. The first quarter of overall slide movement makes a big difference in fueling, the final quarter very little.

ECM bikes have response profiles programmed.

I wish I saw this before a month ago! I found out the hard way. I adjusted my hand for comfort while standing. Big mistake!

I whiskey throttled for the first time this past weekend & it was 100% from over-gripping the throttle.

I do this throttle grip (250 2T) but cant open full throttle without wrist pain. Until I find a solution I’m looking for throttle tubes that require less rotation.

Wait, but in neutral wrist position, I cannot give enough throttle on hard uphills, since I have to hold myself strongly on the handlebar

My throttle is that long on my bike that starting in neutral and flooring it is like a 90 degree bend in my wrist which doesn’t feel comfortable

I've ridden a 450 for years and years and never whisked. But i can see how griping too high would send a noob wheels up.

Idk if people actually grip like that 😂 whiskey throttle is more like some accident happens making you lean back while pulling back on throttle, but your grip is in the regular position

Actually your hands are in the wrong position!
Never grip the donut. Your hands should lay at an angle so the grip comes across your palm. This will create a natural position for your elbows to stay up and out.
