Alpinestars GP-R Leather Jacket Review
One of our favorite products in the run of new Alpinestars gear is the Alpinestars GP-R Leather Jacket. A track-ready leather with a ton of perf, the GP-R is going to be a huge hit amongst trackday enthusiasts and spirited sport and street rider. 1.3mm premium full-grain cowhide, CE rated bioarmor in the shoulders/elbows, pockets to upgrade the chest & back armor, aramidic stretch panels in strategic areas for unparalleled freedom of movement, and external PU shoulder sliders: all of this adds up to another winner from Alpinestars.

Oh snap! This item has gone the way of the T-Rex; a juggernaut of its time, but it is no longer available. You can, however, see similar products from Alpinestars and many others at RevZilla.com.

This jacket comes standard with the Alpinestars Bio Armor in the shoulders and elbows, which is every bit as good as the Icon Stryker armor. I would actually suggest sticking with the Astars armor if you purchase this jacket. The GP Plus pants would be a good mate to this jacket. ~Ali

@seanchee The Tech 1-R actually runs about a size smaller than the other AStars leather as it is truly designed for an aggressive race position and not much else. If you found the Tech 1-R in a size 52 to be too snug, you will be a spot-on 52 in the GP-R.

The Ronin you will probably wear more often. The leather is awesome in person, and you're just as likely to wear it off the bike as you are on the bike. If you are more of a sport rider, then the Alpinestars GP-R is the better choice. You will have to purchase the armor separately for the Ronin, but it's made by Forcefield and is really great stuff. ~Ali

In the Forcefield Pro version, I recommend Type A, Size Small.

@kray2511 The big differences are that the GP-R has slightly thicker leather and a Snap connection system allows integration with Alpinestars’ CE level 2 certified Bionic Race Back Protector. Good luck in school! Ride Safe!

Actually, when it comes to safety apparel, original or fake makes all the difference. The quality of the product directly relates to its ability to protect you in the event of a crash. I wouldn't want to end up with something that looks fantastic, but splits at the seams as soon as I touch the pavement. -CK

@mmcau For the US market, Astars is headed toward a no liner direction in a lot of its jackets, knowing that underarmor type shirts are becoming very popular with many customers. Its also a way to keep the jacket price down for the rider

This jacket can also take the Bio Armor back protector. ~Ali

@ItsMikeyyyg Probably need to size up for layers for those cold East Coast Winters!

There are too many factors involved in a motorcycle crash to predict the outcome, even at lower speeds. A riders best bet is to always wear all your protective gear when you ride. ~Ali

@pilot7180 A little bit nicer. Fully Perforated, and hard shoulder sliders. Both would be a great option for street or track!

@senallttam420 That is hard to say since everyone has a different tolerance for cold, but I personally would be able to use it until about 50 degrees.

Got this jacket as my first motorcycle jacket in March.. Upgraded to the Bioarmor chest and back protector.. Feel a lot safer.. Kept me cool during the summer heat as long as I wasn't stuck at a red light.. Perforation works great! Now that its getting cold, it lets in a bit too much wind.. Have to wear a windproof jacket over it. Very comfortable, arm length was a bit long so I had it shortened as much as I could without disturbing the elbow armor.. Now it fits perfectly.

With my riding conditions, I can go from extreme heat to coastal fog in the same hour. I wanted something that moved air like a mesh jacket, yet had the durability and protection of leather.
That being said, I’m very happy with the A-stars GP-R . I normally wear a size 48 (with a 37 ½ chest), but I went with the 50 to layer up for the weather. I’m glad I did. I think the 48 would fit great for a track day, but I ride daily for work and weekend jaunts. The 50 turned out to be just right.

This Jacket offers great ventilation for a leather jacket. I would recommend buying it one size larger if you're planning on fitting a back protector under it, or just want to have space for a base layer. The fit is between sporty and casual which should fit most types of bodies. Would recommend

Best jacket ever! I have the black on black version. I found one in great condition for 200$:) Get slightly larger size so that you can fit a sweater under during the winter.

Hi, im looking into this jacket and the Roland Sands Ronin Leather Jacket. I know they are completely different styles but they are both really nice looking jackets. does the RS come with any protection or do you have to buy the armor? I think the RS in tobacco is bad ass but i don't want to spend a extra $100 in armor since it already costs $530. Which is the better overall jacket?
