Meanwhile it's Dave Mustaine's head is bobbing around on the screen.

Young Kirk Hammett master of pentatonics

That’s a hot debate. While Marty is absolutely a better player, Kirk wrote more memorable music. Megadeth isn’t a common household name. Everyone has heard of Metallica. Those are facts that simply can’t be denied. We don’t live in a world where better actually means better.

No comparison, Friedman is leaps and bounds above Kirk.

Marty because he is also a more imaginative player as well !

Toni Iommi stays pretty much around the pentatonic but his solo phrasings and especially his rhythmical grooves and imagination are second to none!

At the bottom of the byzantine scale where it drops a note and slides back up, such a satisfying sound

Why don’t you have a picture of Marty instead of Dave mustaine?

Kirk is a solid guitarist and I mean this with no disrespect: there is no comparing him to Marty.

Andy LaRocque also plays lot of exotic scales.

I am a Metallica man overall, but I have to go with Marty when it comes to technique.

No sane person is going to pick Kirk Hammett over Marty Friedman

Hammett has gotten some pretty cool and memorable solos out of the pentatonic scale over the years though. Especially his solo work on their first 4 albums. As far as I'm concerned, the band went down hill after the Justice album, including most of his solo efforts.
