HTC Desire HD Locations Navigation | Pocketnow

In this video we demonstrate the new HTC Desire HD navigation software that comes standard on the HTC Desire HD. The navigation program is easy to use and very fast to route a course. You may wonder why you would need to have a navigation program on an Android 2.2 device. Unlike Google Navigator this program saves all of the maps directly to the device or storage card. If you find yourself traveling outside of your coverage area you will still have the ability to navigate to points-of-interest and addresses. There are two versions that come on the Desire HD; Locations is the free version and for $4.99 a month you can upgrade to the premium HTC Locations Navigator that will speak turn-by-turn directions throughout the entire United States.

@darwich17 This vehicle is a 2005 Honda Pilot EXL. Pilots are great for road trips or camping.

Nice video. You didn't mention that the new HD navigation now shows the speed the vehicle is travelling (which it doesn't on the HTC Desire).

You did make me laugh though.. "Excuse me for videoing the phone, whilst driving, but this is not THAT critical, as I am in a private road, MY private road, so that's okay".Dohhhh!! Does that mean you also have Private people, private animals, and private children who are immune to being struck by a tonne of vehicle!!?? :-) Only kidding, Did make me laugh

So I have an HTC Desire, will I be able to get Locations on it? Or is it only going to be strictly limited to newer HTC Devices.. Quite comical really that my phone is no longer considered a top end mobile, yet a couple months ago it was the benchmark. Awesome video.

Hey Daniel. Great video there. I got a doubt i am using HTC Legend, so will i be able to get the new htc sense update for my phone?Besides that, do you have any news regarding the Froyo update for HTC Legend? The locations navigation is very important. Does it mean that I just need to use my gps instead of gps + data plan to navigate the location? Thanks

@vintoe GPS has nothing to do with cellular coverage. This is why many people are able to have a GPS unit in their vehicle without having to pay anything. More than 20 years ago the US government decided to create the Global Positioning System. At first this was only for the military but president Clinton made it so anyone could get a relatively accurate location. The GPS chip in a smartphone uses this same free technology. Newer phones have AGPS which downloads the satellite's course of travel.

Are the maps preloaded in the phone's memory or the memory card that comes with the phone? thanks.

AWESOME video!!!! and I have a couple of questions...
1.- Is the map for Mexico avaible for download? 2.- Can it show a point to point route (without voice navigation) without having to buy the premium version? This is really cool; I had my wallet aiming for th N8 but after this show off I'm really doubtful.. any suggestions..??

@BBoreq it's on the HD 2 at the moment which has 448 MB RAM, the Desire HD has 768MB RAM, which means this problem will be solved when the actual device hits the street.

I have a HTC HD2, and I successfully flashed Desire HD's ROM into in, the ROM looks awesome. The only problem is that I cannot turn off the phone, because if I turn off, next time I turn it on it goes back to Windows Mobile system. Could you give me some help on this? I would be really appreciated, and I am a big fan of Pocketnow.

Thank you very much for sharing this for us. It's exactly what I was looking for. I am waiting for this phone. However, before I sign up, just want to know that does the GPS talk. Because my sister has HTC legend phone and she said to me it doesn't talk!!! How can you use a GPS which doesn't talk?!

I am enjoy watching your video. Thank you ^_^

Excellent video, thanks for the upload. But the title of the video is mis-leading. This is definitely not the Desire HD, and although IN THE VIDEO you explain that is an HD2, you don't know that until you launch the video.
