Pink Floyd - Pigs on the wing, parts 1 & 2 (8-track version) HD.

On the 8-track cartridge release, the song order was changed, and Parts 1 and 2 were played back-to-back at the beginning of the album, they were linked by a guitar solo. The guitar solo was performed by Snowy White, Snowy would later play the guitar solo in live performances on the 1977 In the Flesh Tour. On the last US leg of the performances, David Gilmour would play bass guitar instead of the electric rhythm guitar he played on the European and first US legs of the Animals tour.

I had this 8-track tape, this version takes me back! Should have been on the latest Animals release.

If say Pink Floyd was to officially make a 3’ long inflatable pig and sell it on their website, would you buy it? I know I would.
Such an Iconic Album and the pig is an enduring symbol of Pink Floyd’s music. I have seen an incarnation of it at every Roger Waters show I have been to and it was used at the last two Pink Floyd Tours.
When ever I listen to this version, I like to close my eyes and take it all in. Snowy’s guitar sends me right back to the summer of 1977. I was 10 that summer I spent a lot of time at the City pool, watching TV, spending time outside and just being a kid. Everything looked different then. The greens of summers, seemed greener and the times seemed much freer than it is today.

Never heard these versions before, in fact I didn't know an eight track mix existed until today!

[Verse 1]
If you didn't care what happened to me
And I didn't care for you
We would zigzag our way through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing up through the rain
Wondering which of the buggers to blame
And watching for pigs on the wing

[Guitar Solo]

[Verse 2]
You know that I care what happens to you
And I know that you care for me too
So I don't feel alone or the weight of the stone
Now that I've found somewhere safe to bury my bone
And any fool knows a dog needs a home
A shelter from pigs on the wing

So much better than two short versions without that amazing solo. Pretty amazing when the band with the best guitar player ever had a guest guitarist on their album. Maybe Roger wasn't talking to Dave that week.

Thanks for this. This will help me in my reconstruction of Animals into a double album by adding other of their most scary or unsettling songs into the mix. Side one starts with this version of pigs on the wing, followed by in the flesh, empty spaces/ what shall we do now, one of these days, is there anybody out there, and one of my turns. Side two is hey you, then dogs. Side three is welcome to the machine, goodbye blue sky, pigs ( 3 different ones ) side 4 is careful with that axe Eugene, another brick in the wall part 3, sheep, and pigs on the wing, just part two, ends it.

Snowy played this one? Gorgeous! I also didn’t know this version existed until 4 minutes ago and hope to find more gems like it. Suggestions please!

This is the remixed version from Snowy White's solo CD "Goldtop" and not the original version from the actual 8-track! The solo is different, and the song is drastically remixed, with an ocean of reverb on the vocals, and dropping Gilmour's guitar part completely! The bombastic remade solo is way over the top compared to the original version...

Think if they’d added a little more production to this they could’ve released it as a single for this album. Think it could’ve been successful

Jarring, it's so obvious it's not Gilmour, no disrespect to Snowy but it could have used some work - why this and other tracks were left off the deluxe reissue is a crime.

Roger wrote this song for his first wife! Sad.

I love snowy but the solo just doesn’t fit the song nor the band in general really. Gilmour was made for Floyd and it’s a shame Waters kept “accidentally” erasing his solos.
