It's the RF 28-70 that's F2.0, but they have recently come out with a much smaller F2.8 Non-L (Red Ring) version of this lens.

i switched from the SL2 to the R5 and could not be happier. No issue with the colors because I use TAP profiles, the R5 is better in every way for me. I shoot a lot of automotive and racing, corporate events. The Main reason why i sold the SL2 : No Burst shooting possible if the battery is under 50%, bad AF, very slow turnaround times if something breaks (months), no flip screen, paint is came off after the first day, The new RF glas is also fantastic. Still kept the Q2 though, which is fun.

I have an R6 and use almost exclusively with vintage lenses. I love the colors and how comfortable it is to carry.

I use Canon and Leica cameras and lenses together all the time, and I find them much more similar than Sony, Nikon and Fuji. My presets work quite well on both, but I have noticed that the Leica raw files have stronger contrast, so they usually require more shadow/highlight work in post. They also look a little crisper than Canon files, with one exception: Canon 5DSR. That's probably due to the lack of AA filter. I've actually used Leica R lenses on that camera with great results!
Canon possibly has better auto white balance too, but that's not really important for raw files anyway :-)

For color issue the Color Checker Passport is a no brainer 😉 You can do a generic profile (camera only) or specific profiles (camera+lens+day of shooting ambient lightings) or how to get the same colors for any camera 🤪

One advantage for the Leica (SL) is the menu structure, compared to the menu structure of any other camera. Simple, easy to use and smart

Agree about the greens, but skin tones? I see a heavy magenta cast on SL... and while canon isn't perfect it's more true to life.

Nice comparison. I've been using a couple of SLs and an SL2 since 2020 and my clients love the results I get from them. I was previously a Sony user and the difference in file quality (in favor of the Leicas) is obvious.

Happy with both the vintage and modern M lenses on my SL2. Haven’t touched my LUMIX G9 for a long time. Thanks for the video.

A camera is just a tool. If its' right for you its right for you. I use Leica throughout now - 2 SL2 with grips, Q2 - uses same battery and sensor, S3 for the portraits -M11 for some fun with a bunch of lo F-Stop M Lenses as well - all lenses are interchangeable - its a win win win all round - also simple to operate - no fuss - no deep diving to find a film sim you won't need or face detection which doesn't - robust and durable, weather sealed, and gorgeous to use - its the difference between driving a Ford Focus and a Mercedes - both do the same job but there is more to it than that.. And yes people really really do say to me 'Oh, People at weddings are more clued up than you might think - I even convinced one guy to buy one and he wasn't even a dentist!

Matt, Brilliant channel, found your site and channel last week. What a massive contribution a real treat, thanks a lot.
I am a new user in the Leica system and owner of the M8, since one week. But also a old Canon shooter and happy user of the R6. The Eos r6 is a thing on his own and there is nothing like that right now.

So to add to the discussion your findings of the yellowish of the canon I cannot confirm that. But what I can confirm is that there is something proprietary in the canon raw files which is very difficult for adobe to make a proper interpretation of the raw. DPP (free) will produce a better, sharper and accurate Color representation of your raw. If you challenge jpg right out of the camera’s, you’ll see that both cameras stand out. Cheers JP

I’ve just sold my Canon R5 that I really didn’t enjoy. I use the M10r with much better results so I always for the R5 in a bag at home. Strangely this has just come up on my feed after ordering the SL601 due this week, my eyesight is starting to fail so I just hope this will be my way forward.
Fantastic content!!!! Thank you

wow the color difference is huge! I personally prefer the leica colors of all the cameras I've used but I'd chose cannon over Sony if color was the only factor... fun to see this A/B!

Hi Matt, so glad you made this one. I shoot commercial work including events and PR, using Canon and am looking to upgrade from the trusty old 5d mk4 to the newer R6 or R5, something that I can't avoid now. I hired an R6 and the focusing side of it was amazing for shooting a 4 day conference with 100's of speakers and 1000's of guests in low light. However since finding your channel I have bought an R5 and a few old R lenses with the intention of shooting film again for my personal work. Now I have gone down the hole of buying an SL to use with the R lenses for personal work and am now thinking maybe I should just change my Canon workhorse kit for Leica. How do you find shooting weddings using the SL, what lenses do you use, I couldn't imagine having to shoot manual focus on a PR job. Would the SL mach a 5Dmk4 in the studio for commercial work (bear in mind most of the studio work I shoot now ends up on social media or 6 sheet, so I'm not sure 50mg cameras are a necessity these days) Does the auto focus work with the SL and Panasonic lenses?

Hmm I'm in a similar boat. Just traded off a 5D4 for R5 with some RF lenses, BUT my love are a case full of ZE Zeiss lenses that I'm considering getting a SL2 to mount. Bought a Q, oh my, bought a m246mono, good— but I have all these zeiss lenses getting dusty.

Nice to see you like the SL color, etc. better. Think I'll sell off the R (keep the R5 for the RF lenses), but getting a SL2 for the zeiss might be an ok idea.

Alex must have a lot of money - he he. He was able to go and buy so quickly. Good on him. Great video too Matt. I can see why I'm sticking to my Nikon Z6ii - I love those Nikon colours (and that's coming from a Fuji shooter)!

Also when bringing up the SL2 or SL2S in the comparison, wouldn't it be fair to also upgrade the Canon model as well, given its 2x the price point of used SLs?

Finally, with the Canon R6 MkII just released the SL's negative/con's points would only be widened.

Hi Matt, love your channel and your content. TBH, unless the images are side-by-side, I would have a hard time telling one system from the other. In my (long!) lifetime, I have shot Pentax and Nikon film, Canon, Pentax, Fuji digital and now Sony. I had zero complaints about the image quality of any of the systems. The differences came in the ergonomics, focus speed and accuracy and a few other functional capabilities. Even in lenses, they all offered plenty of native and 3rd party alternative. I love the Leica magic and mystic but if budget is a consideration, then any other system will do for a lot less $$$.

I've used Canon cameras in the past, and I liked them. However, they were DSLRs rather than the new mirrorless ones, so I can't speak for the latest offerings. I was a bit (a lot!) of a gear head, and bought a lot of cameras and lenses from Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Pentax and Canon. I gravitated to the SL2-S when it first came out, and I can truthfully say that I have not used any other camera that comes close to its ergonomics and sheer usability. It's not the best camera for sport or wildlife, perhaps, but for my needs it is, like Mary Poppins, practically perfect! Given the amount of money I have spent on camera gear over the years, Leica has worked out quite cheap, as I do not feel the need to upgrade from my SL2-S and M10-P (until the SL3 comes out, that is...).

My Sonys give things a slight green cast, compared to the Canon yellow issues. Sometimes it's not so apparent, but sometimes it is just noticeable enough to be really irritating to correct.
