From design decisions to the layout of the rigging, twin engine installation and pilothouse, Luc walks us through some of the thinking that has gone into building the first 490. The 490 aluminum sailboat will join the Ovni range of centerboard sailboats at Alubat. The first hull is slated to launch in the Spring.

What an excellent yacht! Very well thought out with lots of things you do not find on a typical production yacht. It'll be interesting to see the manoeuvrability with the double propellers.Well worth it when you think about it, an extra motor can be a real life saver...
How much extra weight for the full aluminium hull?

It always happens. The cruising boats copy the style of race boats that have to conform to box rules and have design elements that often sacrifice seakindlyness for marginal gains. I feel that the bow would not be very efficient going to windward in any sort of seaway. The scow bow is for down wind and will likely slam and scoop water.

One of my favorite boat brands. Would buy in a heartbeat, but the wait time of 3+ years for some of the more affordable models kind of sucks. I understand why, I’m just saying, it sucks :\

I like Aluminum it seems very well build, in my view the general design of the boat. lots of nice areas the dog house is a very good addition more room for roof solar panels.
However when you step a mast on the deck instead of through the deck to the keel you lose 20% of the mast strength, . My boat also has a round full bow build also in France vintage 1988 I find it wonderful running a reaching but lousy going to weather. I don't like the outside opening cockpit lockers they leak There was no build in rudders it would have been interesting to see them in place are the flip up or fixed? Also what is the displacement of the design, ? if you have twin rudders you don't need a bow thruster bow trustees on a boat are more trouble then the are worth. Thanks for the tour, SV Skoiern IV
