His accent in the show is Mancunian (from Manchester). His real accent is London/South East England. He's actually from Northampton, which has a different accent again, but moved south when young, so it didn't stick. I did not know any of this until this video.

Soccer came from Association Football, aka “Asoccer, ” and when American football started developing in America, soccer as the name stuck to distinguish between them. Same thing happened in multiple other countries. But the word comes from the UK. 🤷‍♀️
