I love kefir that is thick like yogurt. However, sometimes it can be difficult to strain out the kefir grains. There is a super easy remedy for this. Enjoy the benefits of kefir and find an easy and quick way to strain it. Check out the video to see how.

What i first do is stir the seperated kifir to combine it, before pouring it into the strainer. I find that to be the best way to run all of it through the strainer easier, and without much effort

i shake it before i strain it. it separates the lumps and makes it more liquid. easy to stir in the strainer and separate the grains from the finished kefir drink.

I shake it up nicely in the bottle before pouring it out in the strainer. That works best for me.

I get fresh, raw, cow's milk from a local Mennonite family. I often pour just a little fresh milk over the grains as I stir to help thin and loosen the kefir from the grains. A little fresh milk mixed in with a fresh batch of kefir never hurt anyone.

I use a shallow bowl where the kefir in tbe strainer can touch the whey that has already fallen out and i keep moving the.spoon, the kefir is wet with the whey and strains easily

I've been 'massaging' the grains by pressing on them with my (kefir dedicated) silicone spatula to squeeze out the milk. I actually, think it's making them grow faster!

Hi Donna, we started making kefie February 8th and have an abundance of kefie grains! What should we do with them, we know no one that is interested in making! We have about 1/3 of way forming after 12 hours starting to produce so should we go to 2 tbsp of grains? I hope that makes sense?

Thank you for the video. Would you be able to suggest what is the mesh type. In the Amazon website I have seen, 100 or 400. I am not to clear which is a good fit for filtering kefir. Kindly suggest. Thank you

I bought cultures online and guess who my Kefir came from? You Mizz Donna! I Love yur YouTube channel! A very good Seventh Day Adventist told me about Kefir and Kombucha, I’ve done the Kombucha and tonight I am growing my first batch of Kefir! Wish me luck!

When my kefir separates like that, the whey is always on the bottom. Not once has it been on top?? I've been doing this for about 6 months now and there hasn't been even once that the whey is on top and curds on the bottom. What's different with mine? And it doesn't matter if its the first ferment or the second ferment (without the grain in it), the whey is still always at the bottom.

I purchased my grains from culture for life however they dont grow or multiply at all. I get lots of kefir which I am overproducing however nothing makes the grains grow and I am cautious to give them milk and even some non sweetened evaporated milk so I dont let them starve. But straining each time is a problem since my grains are super tiny and getting less not more under all conditions no matter how good I treat them. I feel that my grains do not match what others describe and as they get smaller and smaller in a couple weeks I will have to trust that there are atoms of grains in the kefir. There are BARELY any small yellow grains left. However the mush that is at the bottom of the screen I work it into the grain jar and they keep working. I have not one single grain that looks like a cottage cheese type cauliflower grain the way they describe them.

What if we don't strain it and just keep it in fridge and drink?

Why so much kefir to less milk? Do I need a cup of milk to one tablespoon of kefir to start? Ration please
