The Proposal to Dam the Mediterranean Sea

Показать описание
There is a proposal to dam the Mediterranean Sea and drain it out, uniting Europe and Africa into a new supercontinent called Atlantropa. The project would involve massive dams at the Strait of Gibraltar, the Dardanelles Strait and between Sicily and Tunisia, lowering the water level 100 and 200 meters, opening up 576,000 square kilometers of new land for settlement and agriculture. Unfortunately though, this proposal would strand all of the Mediterranean’s coastal cities inland, destroy marine habitats, could be ruined with one nuke, and all the new exposed land would be salt flats. To learn more, watch the full video we just released on the Futurology YouTube channel.
