I'm Mexican but I'm 6'3", I have light brown hair, blue eyes, and look European. My maternal grandparents are from Lebanon and Spain and my paternal grandparents were Spanish and British. When i travel to the US they're surprised to learn I'm Mexican and I have to explain to them that being Mexican is not a race, it's a nationality.

It is true that in Mexico, ethnic groups have mixed so much that even within the same family there are variations, My older sister is white, when she was a child, her hair was so blonde that it looked silver, while my older brother, who was born shortly after, has tanned skin and dark hair. To this day, no one can tell at first glance that they are siblings.

As an average Mexican, I have cousins who are blacker than Will Smith, others who look like children of Moctezuma and others who look identical to the children of Donald Trump and this is perfectly normal in Mexico.😁

I'm American, of Mexican descent, my mother's father, and all of his family Spaniards, my father's mother mixed Spaniards and Indigenous my Father's father family are Tarasco's or Purépecha they are from Michoacan. I'm very proud of my heritage. I know most of my families history because I loved speaking to my grandparents, great uncles, and so on, and I wrote down most of it. It's a beautiful thing to pass down.

Whats the purpose of classify people by race? In Mexico I was never asked for my race, when i requested a job or fullfill a form, but in USA they always ask for your race even if you are just registering to play a game, I understand if they ask for nationality, age, religion or marital status, but why ask your race? they are gonna treat you different if you are white, black, hispanic, asian or something else?

A good thing about being indigenous mexican, is that I never get comfused for anything other than mexican. So when people say you look mexican, it really means you look indigenious. 😊

Just like the US, where being “American” is a nationality, not an ethnicity, “Mexican” is also a nationality, not an ethnicity.

I know a person from Oaxaca, they said that they had to learn Spanish, when they left their village. In Mexico! Then they learned to speak English! Here in the US! Awesome!

Some time ago, some guy said to me that I looked “very Indian”. He thought I was going to get offended. I was offended, but not for the reason he was hoping. I told him that I am Mexican, not Indian. Indians are from india. I am racially Native American and that’s why I look the way I look and I’m very proud of looking Native American.

I'm Mexican and have very light skin, blonde hair, green eyes. My son has blue eyes. I'm mestizo like most Mexicans, I don't know my DNA ancestry, I'm just proudly Mexican.

Mexico is extremely diverse. Many people don't get that and it's 2025. Mind-blowing.

As a Mestiza nearly 50/50 myself, I would love to drop the LATINO and HISPANIC labels. It’s broad and erases the indigenous side of our culture.

I'm Bosnian and all my Mexican/Hispanic friends are as close to me as my own family, some of the kindest, hardest working, and most respectful people I've ever had the honor of knowing. Respect to all my Mexicans out there.

In 1503, Queen Isabel called on Governor Nicolás Ovando, a fundamental man in the first years of European presence in America, to promote mixed marriages, “which are legitimate and recommended because the Indians are free vassals of the Spanish Crown”
