KPRC 2 Investigates solar panel problems

You are probably seeing them on more homes around town. Solar panel systems are exploding in popularity here. The idea is to convert sunlight into electrical energy to use in your home. But some customers are running into issues after they get the panels put on.

These companies will no longer be around in 10 years.. no less 20 or 25 until you pay off the loan.

When it come to solar ALWAYS BUY THE SYSTEMS. Don't lease or buy the power from the company that installed power on your House. Check your Warranty Both Equipment Warranty and the Warranty on the Installation. Get it in Writing dont take the salesmans word on it (If you get through the first year after PTO. "Permission to operate" without problems your system will likely be good for 25-30 Years) They tell you not to clean them That is NOT TRUE. Higher a professional Minimum once a year to clean them some areas more. IF the cost of your system does not Pay for its self in 10-12 Years Its probably not for you. & Keep in mind a 10 KW doesn't always produce 10KW because of Shade and indirect sunlight and Dust/Dirt Build up. The lady in this video is only getting half of her power because she is surrounded by trees that have Been growing Creating more Shade since the system was installed And That is not SunRuns Fault Also I Have Never installed a system that was in Danger of a tree Falling on it but I have had jobs delayed Or Cancel while waiting for customers to have a tree trimmed or removed.

For now, solar is a joke. Don't fall for the BS sales pitch.

It's too bad that we don't have regulations on these businesses. I've had my solar panels for 5 years, haven't pay a bill and worked during the freeze

An entire southern CO county is dealing with similar problems - every single consumer was paying quite more!! "We didn't buy solar to pay more!"

People. CALL THE MANUFACTURER WHEN YOU CAN'T GET A HOLD OF YOUR INSTALLER. The company that makes the equipment underneath the panels do not handle anything that isn't made by them.
