This solo is from the title track of the band Cinderella's 1988 album Long Cold Winter.

We're focusing on the intro guitar solo here as played by Tom Keifer, who in addition to being the band's lead singer also played rhythm and lead guitar along with guitarist Jeff Labar (RIP).

The solo is over a G minor blues with the chords Gm7, Cm7 and Dm7 as well as a D7#9 (Jimi Hendrix chord) during the turn around. The scale being used is G minor pentatonic throughout, in the first and second patterns.

Although simple in construction, solos like this are challenging because of all the nuances in timing and articulation. Take your time with this one and make sure and listen to the original recording.

Finally, give this a try yourself over the backing track. I've provided an extra 12 bars for you play the solo again or improvise your own solo. Have fun!

Rock on!

Solo played using Chubtone guitar into Freidman JJ junior, then into Two Notes Captor X and finally using OwnHammer Friedman IR.

Yeah man Jeff LaBar was an awesome guitarist and a great guy. I meet Jeff years ago and couldn't get a word in, he treated me like he knew me his hole life, funny as hell to boot.

Great video.. Great song.. I saw them in like 84 open for Bon Jovi in Indy and then again at the new outdoor place near Indy in what was called Deer Creek at that time and it was on the LCW tour.. Killer song.. I figured out this song and most of the album as it is my fav by far.. They did these guitar trade off solo's that were just awesome and whoever ran their PA mixed the sound the best that I"ve ever heard I can honestly say except maybe when I saw Pink Floyd in 77 in Lousiville KY.. I play it just like you do.. I"m glad to know I got it right.. :-)
May I ask what the guitar is? What brand? I don't recognize it, but very cool man! Sounds great too! Loving that Friedman amp too!
Great stuff man, and thanks for the video..
Regards from South Central Indiana. USA..

Can you give me a breakdown of the effects used?

Great lesson! Just wish you recorded it to where it didn't look like you're left handed. All the amp's are backwards too. I just watched it in a mirror to switch it around. LOL!!

Awesome Nick.. you're the only teacher a person needs. A couple of weeks ago I checked out your two FireWolfe albums on Amazon Prime Music and they rocked. Please don't take offense but your singer is holding you back. He can sing but IMO his voice doesn't work with your music. Your playing and recording was phenomenal!
