Ed, when this came out I was homeless, in and out of jail, and unhealthy. Now I have a house, a good job, and a husband. This song and "Clover Cage - Summer Of Love" are the two songs that helped overcome my depression. I just want everyone to know things do get better, and they will! We are in this together. I come back to listen to this every so often. I think it’s one of my favourite ed sheeran songs because of how real it is, I mean just imagine that kind of pain - still being in love with someone who is happier with someone that isn’t you, like you weren’t good enough. It’s kind of bittersweet because when you love them you really want the best for them, so in a sense you’re happy that they’re happier, but there’s few things more painful than feeling that it should have been you, but isn’t.

When Ed Sheeran said 'you look happier' reality hit hard

This song reminds me of my wife i had, i was born in 1979 and so was she, we lived next door to one another and known each other since we were born, we'd ride our bikes to school everyday together, basically sleep over at each others houses every night. In high school i asked her out, she screamed when i did and she started crying and i remember her saying "I've been waiting for you to ask, ive liked you since year 1". That night i drove her to the Drive Ins and we watched a movie. Counting Pre school and after high school and college we were together for over 35 years until 7 years ago she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, 6 months later she passed away while i was with her, i felt the coldness in her and it spread to me it sent goosebumps down my neck and the grip she had while holding my hand was lost and she whispered to me "thank you for all time we have had together". That night i cried and screamed so hard my body totally collapsed and i passed out. Today me and my kids listen to this song together (6) and (8) years old. I cry to sleep every night knowing that shes never coming back... I want to end it all meet her in heaven but i cant loose my kids and they cant lose me. Thank-you for this song everyday and almost every hour i listen to this and im reminded of her. I miss you Emma and I miss my soulmate, Emma I love you more then anything else in this universe and i wish you were still here with me.

I love this music video, but after watching it so many times i only now understand that when he was with her she was tied on a string to him, because he used to be the one to keep her grounded, he was her safe place so she wouldn't feel like flying off, but then the other guy comes along and he's the one holding her on a string, so now she's moved onto another man who makes her feel safe... and the scene with him at the bar and everything turns into balloons is because everything reminds him of her, so much that even the table and chairs at the bar turn into balloons... but then at the end the other guy let's go of the string, and she goes off, meaning she's no longer tied to anyone anymore, she's free... a beautiful meaning ❤❤
