The sad tree is the son of the butler at the deku palace. His son went missing. He either died on his own or skull kid killed him. Either way, skull kid probably fused his soul with yours to turn you into the deku scrub.

What Peter needs to know about Termina: it’s a world of sadness and depression, a world of stress and anxiety, a world of death and sorrow. This is one of the saddest games you will ever play. I hope you know that. Also HYPE for this series! I’m so glad you guys are finally getting the this game, also glad Peter remembers Oot because you need that. It would be cool if you played the 3DS remake with Henriki Magnifico’s HD texture pack and Project Restoration but this is great too! Also will this end up on BLP?

Its not a theory, it gets confirmation in the credits, the masks you get have the souls of the people that leave them behind, you become them when you wear them, so that deku scrub must've come from somewhere...

The fairies had an interesting naming convention that I've never seen anyone mention.

The one that joins you is Tatl (white)
The one with Skull Kid is Tael (purple)

So before she got separated from the group, it was Tatl, tael and skull kid

Not the poor deku scrub child 😭 he's the one that skull kid unalived in order to turn you into a Deku scrub. All transformation masks are the souls of the dead who you turn into. In the credits, you see the butler crying in front of that scrubs husk and when you met him in the palace, he said that you reminded him of his son

Started this over so I could play along. Glad I got past you in this first sessioon but already had to look up a guide for a part you haven't gotten to yet... I'll let you know when you're there lol! I tried this game once before and quit due to getting stuck. Gotta say I don't like the controls, but I highly enjoy the grit of this game!
