Star Wars Jedi Survivor PS5: Stunning Visuals, Compelling Gameplay - But What About Perf?

Star Wars Jedi Survivor is far from a perfect release, but its tech issues are far less intrusive on PlayStation 5 than they are on PC. Here's an initial look at the PS5 game, along with analysis of the resolution and performance modes, plus frame-rate testing. This is a game with so much to commend it, but we'd hope that Respawn isn't finished on improving performance.

Note: EA did not provide console code for Survivor until launch day. However, we acquired a physical copy of the PS5 version ahead of that. We'll be following up soon with a more detailed breakdown, along with everything you need to know about the Xbox Series console versions, PS5 comparisons etc.

When the publisher doesn't send out codes to DF, you know that something is up.

648p on a next gen console just to achieve 45-55fps is insane

Why they didn't propose a Performance mode without RT is a complete mystery. I hope they will in futures updates.

I am so glad that you guys proved I wasn't losing my mind. I was playing on performance and was CONVINCED that it had to be rendering closer to 720p, not 1440p. I also clearly noticed what I now know is the FSR2 rendering just not keeping up AT ALL causing SO MUCH shimmering and artifacting to appear. It was really hurting my enjoyment but no one seemed to know what the hell I was talking about!
Man I really hope they can do some tweaks to this. Just get me 1440p at 60 guys. Please. I don't need FSR2 or ray tracing. I just want as crisp an image as possible at the highest and stable FPS possible.

this will be super fun to play in about a year when it's not a technical mess. i really hate this era of gaming

Optimization and the general technical aspects of games needs to become more of a priority. I'm tired of games being sold blatantly unfinished at launch. I'm glad if you can still enjoy yourself with huge technical issues present, but I really think we should stop rewarding publishers for this behavior.

648p and drops below 40 FPS. This is a truly next-gen experience. 🤣

My first High Definition TV in 2007 was 900p. Maybe I should try finding it for Jedi Survivor

My brother just hit a game breaking bug and had to restart the game from the beginning. On Koboh when you save Zee in the Chamber of Duality they open the door and lift for you. But he died after exiting from there and was sent back to the meditation point where he found Zee. Once you are sent back there you cannot escape from there. The door to the lift does not open and you cannot climb back up where you originally entered. Because you cannot go back to a previous save point you are stuck. All you can do is start the game from the very beginning. If you Google it you will find others with the same issue.

fun fact: you actually can enable 60fps mode in cutscenes you just need to toggle it in the menu while the cutscene is playing, and the visuals will take a noticeable quality hit in favor of higher framerate just like in gameplay

Game drops to 648p on performance mode. Wow. just wow.

This video helps a lot… the resolution dropping to below 720p on performance mode explains so much. I kept getting such horrendous graphics and blurry textures etc I couldn’t believe it was 1440p. I thought I was going mad!

So, the choices are 720p or 15 FPS...
I think I will stick with option 3, which is: avoid until further notice.

They really need to run around some other open areas of Koboh, like Fort Kah'lin, where the frame rate just tanks in Performance Mode. This is really shoddy work for such a high-profile game. I truly hope they fix these horrendous frame-rate, screen-tearing, and pop-in issues.

The worst offender for me is the horrible screen tearing. I was able to pretty much remove tearing by toggling the VRR for un supported games on which leads me to believe this game does not support VRR natively. Also I wish they would give us an option to turn of raytracing. I dont even notice it during gameplay.

Not giving option to turn off raytracing is really poor, we all can assume that without it locked 60fps on performance would be achieved easily.

Looks like this will be a "wait a year for patches to achieve solid 60fps performance and fix bugs" kinda game

A lot of very weird decisions by Respawn. Ray tracing in the performance mode with very obvious frame drops and sub-720p resolution? Yikes.

If you have a VRR capable TV - make sure you enable the PS5 setting to force VRR in games that don't support it, in my experience it definitely improves things a bit and removes a lot of the screen tearing.

People responding to the PC performance issues by saying "it's fine on PS5" are insane. Sub 720p on a current gen console in inexcusable. I don't know about anyone else but those FSR artifacts and the low res reflections are extremely distracting to me.
