Ionic Bonding: A Love Story l A cartoon guide to formation of ionic bond l Science l Brar Scribbles
Показать описание
IONIC BOND :
(Formed by Transfer of electrons from metal atom to non-metal atom)
Metals have tendency to lose electrons and non-metals have tendency to gain electrons, in order to attain stable configuration of noble gas.
After losing outermost electron(s), metal atom form positivity charged ion (cation). On the other hand, non-metal atoms gain an electron(s) to form negatively charged ion (anion).
Since opposite charges attract each other, cation and anion so formed will held together by strong electrostatic force of attraction, called an ionic bond.
