What is the Driver CPC? How do I get my CPC? And.....do I need a CPC? In this video we talk about when the CPC started, why it started and how to get qualified and keep it!

It's not a glamorous topic, but it is so important for any driver looking to do their HGV or PCV training to get their Lorry or Bus licences to understand the CPC. Or even if you are an experienced driver seeking clarity! Whether it is the initial CPC or the 35 hours continuation training, in this video you will find the answers you are looking for!

Comment below, did this video help? What other topics would you like us to cover? We'd love to hear from you!

That's why there's a driver shortage. CPC should be done once only by new passes.
Drivers have it hard enough out there .

I'm looking at doing my Class C and C+E back to back. I have been watching your videos and think they are brilliant. I wish I was closer to you guys, I would definitely book my training with you. Unfortunately I'm over 200 miles away, up in Yorkshire. Stay safe.

The reason I left the industry after 30 years I had driven nearly every type of lorry and transported nearly every type of load including tipping tanker hazardous loads low loader wide and long loads and felt completely humiliated to have to go to a classroom and be taught my job by a desk taught tutor who had never roped or sheeted a load in their life so it was too much for me

I'm doing my HGV class 2 at the moment on a government Apprenticeship basis. These videos are great to watch and my stumbling block so far has been Mod 1a, the multiple choice theory. 84 out of 100 twice when 85 is needed. My Mod 2 I didn't even revise much. Just 1 failed mock test, but I passed with 47. I advise against this, but so far, I'm really enjoying the process of learning and just waiting on my practical stuff now. These videos are going to be massively useful for it.

I have watched a few of your videos and they are very informative and fun as well. I have driven all types of vehicles since I was 17 and I had a class 2 licence entitlement. I was a mechanic with buses then trucks and eventually did driving for a living. When this cpc stuff came into being I was driving a minibus for NHS and wasn’t involved with driving HGVs. at that point. My problem was that no one gave me any information whatsoever with regards to my licence and this new cpc test we had to take. Eventually I phoned DVLA and asked them what the situation was regarding me getting the cpc, I was told that I had to get it within 5years from when it started or I couldn’t work driving for a living. If I didn’t get it within that 5 years I would lose my driving entitlement for class 2. I still had no information about it and eventually they took my entitlement off my licence and I wasn’t happy but from what I had heard from others was that i5 would cost me £700 or so and a week off work so obviously there was no way I could afford this and hadn’t a clue how to go about getting it, so the licence was gone. I am really annoyed about it as I feel there was no enough information out there at the time to help drivers like myself understand this better, also when I called DVLA they were not very helpful at all and only told me that I had to get it or I would not be entitled to drive. I did enjoy my time driving during which I collected zero points and had an accident free employment. Aaargh !! I still get so upset about it all. Anyway sorry I went on a fair bit but I just wanted to say and at least let others know they were not the only drivers who were left to find out information for themselves and that the whole system for HGV drivers is a total ba*** up. Have to say though thanks to you guys folk will have somewhere they can find useful and practical information when it’s needed, keep up the good work, thank you 😁

Thanks a bunch guys. All the way from Poland, as a foreigner, not so good with the Polish language but you guys kept me on track, I got to know about Apps to use and what to look out for. 28-04-2023, I passed my Class C (Theory) examination. looking forward to starting the practical training. No English teachers here where am at, but I try to grab as much as I can in Polish and later come to you guys to study here and get clarity. Thanks for the good jobs.. cheers

I’ve never got the hazard perception tests. I see potential hazards all the time and drive accordingly yet still making good progress. I drove 7.5 tonne vans in the 1990s and early 2000s. This CPC nonsense is just yet another money grab

The CPC is a complete waste of time. 90% of the things taught a driver does not need to know. A totally unnecessary expense for the driver.

Done a cpc course for the whole week years ago in Southampton. The instructor said on the first day… yes this will be boring, but you need to attend so if you want to sleep or watch film on you phone carry on!!!

I have a full licence.

In a few years I want to buy a giant truck like a polish jelcz 662 (pronounced Yelch) they weigh about 10 ton.

I'm going to kit it out with everything and only use it for personal use.

Am I correct in thinking I just need to do a lorry theory and a lorry practical like a car and bike and avoid this CPC? Thank you gents.

Have a great weekend.
