Installed a new post for my grandma, used this video for help. She bought me dinner afterwards for how good it looked, appreciate the free dinner 😂

The way your saying "it's no big deal" at the end made me immediately think my neighbors must think as I'm on year two with a mail box that sloped sideways. "Fix yer shit Walt!! It's no big deal! Would take you 45 minutes tops you lazy bastard!" lmfao

Next paycheck I swear lol

Post Office here told me that 42 inches from the bottom of the mail box to the ground is their policy, and as close to the road as possible without damaging any curbing or blacktop.

Also just FYI on the video, any time you put a post in the ground and you are going to use concrete then just add a bit of gravel under the post first (shovel full or 2) to assist with drainage. Not having drainage is what causes them to rot. Actualy i was told the best thing to use is a packing sand and no concrete at all, that is what they use for fence posts on This Old House. They put some gravel down and then the post, and then pack the special sand all around it and its as good as concrete but no rot and easy replacement down the road.

But dude, speaking as a rural carrier, don't ever buy that mailbox. Get a plastic one (eventually the door on a metal one will become difficult to close), and oversized. With e-commerce, you want at least a modest size box to fit in there. People who don't have a porch or other covering will have a box sit on their front porch or driveway and possibly get rained on later in the day before you get home (the PO does not supply bags for the carriers).

I use Sika Fence Post mix. Even though it is 3 times as expensive as concrete it drys in 3 minutes and you don't have to go back the next day to mount the mailbox.

USPS requires the mailbox bottom to be at the height 41-45 inches from the ground...

I would add some gravel on the bottom for better drainage.

You used the level wrong... Should use it vertically to make sure it is square and plumb.. You then secure the bracing at the post down to a stake to hold it once square and plumb.... Your braces may have helped keep it square but not both square and plumb..

It is also advised to make the hole 3 times the diameter of the post to ensure enough of a concrete base.

EXACTLY HOW DID YOU GET THE ROTTED WOOD OUT OF THE GROUND TO INSTALL THE NEW POST?

Height called for 41-45 inches, so i could only dig 18 inches to meet height for post i bought, hopefully it holds 😢

How much would you charge for installation with your labor and the materials

Why would you put another wood post when the first one rotted out??

I live on a main drag road, I replaced my mailbox/mailpost like 4 times from car accidents.
