Not everyone will find themselves in a survival situation BUT most everyone will find themselves camping with fewer tools than they might like. Greg shares some of his most helpful camping tricks, tips, and hacks to help you next time you're out in the bush!

Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

I started watching your channel first thing this Sunday morning instead of all the shitty news that’s happening in the world. And my heart just feels better. Thanks!

9:00 Cooking cans on the fire. Grab the can and thump the side on the heel of your boot. That puts a nice dent in the side of the can. Put the can on/near the fire and when the dent pops out it's ready and still not pressured enough to explode. No shaking, no risk.

You know, I can say with confidence that I know a lot about the outdoors. But there's also the quote from Horace Kephart: "There's no diploma at the school of woods". Meaning, there's always something new to learn. And this video is a proof of that. I didn't knew about this way to cook meat and what about the eggs in the ziploc bag. I would have never thought of that! Excellent video and that's why I love your channel Greg. Down to earth, practical, no fuss, no wham, just pure and simple fun, and knowledge :)

I have one fish cooking hack .Wrap fresh caught and cleaned fish in thick layer of wet newspaper, then wrap it in tinfoil. When cooked and unwrapped the fish skin will stick to the dry newspaper and be ready to eat.

The steak hanger is genius. I like that better than horizontal.

9:32 - The interior of the can is often lined with a layer of polymer or plastic to prevent the food from reacting with the metal. This lining can melt or release harmful chemicals if exposed to excessive heat.

For this reason, I recommend puncturing the can creating a tiny hole. You still get all the benefits and sufficient pressure, but not enough static heat build up to melt this layer of polymer to a dangerous degree. Alternatively, you can re-use a can which already had its inner layer of plastic melded, albeit at the cost of a sealed top - but that's where the good ol' foil comes in handy. Just remember to tighten it with a wire or some sort of metal clip - if you can.

6:00 just a quick note for folks that might want to give this a shot - just make sure your rock isn't one from a river. Some folks might be tempted, because they're easy to see and pick up. However, rocks that have been soaking in water for a long time can have moisture seep into the microfractures inside, and can explode when heated. Especially risky if you're trying to use them to create a warm bed. Dry-ish ones are fine. Just not ones that haven't been sitting in a river bed.

Loved watching this. Takes me back to when I was a kid. So many of these things I knew what you were doing because I grew up in the woods, too, many years ago. I was just telling my cats last night what a wonderful invention aluminum foils was, and how versatile is was in the woods. With a knife, a tarp and tin foil, you can do just about anything.

Yeah. I talk to my cats. I've never had a cat use my words against me or tell anyone my secrets. Anyway, it was a teachable moment for them, and another chance for me to show off my opposable thumbs. I'm a god to those furry little weirdos.

My go-to knife is Schrade that does just about everything fairly well, although it weighs a full pound, so it isn't light. They call it a "Reckon Tini" now. Can't recall what they called it when I bought one, but it's a solid knife for the woods, and you can chop wood with it if you use a stick to pound it through. Not terribly expensive, either. Any time I go on a trip up to see my dad, that knife is in the pack I put in my Jeep, (along with my tarp, foil and a few basics) in case something happens somewhere in the middle, where there aren't any people.

I love how Fin darts away when you pull out the big knife.

I'm happy to have found an outdoor channel that doesn't advertise something every 5 minutes. The stuff is usually junk or unnecessarily expensive. you go back to the basics that are so important. Thank you for your correction and your ingenuity. You are great!

When the coffee is done with grounds on top. Just put a little bit of cold water on top of coffee. All coffee grounds will go to the bottom instantly. Old campground secret
