(1715) Abus 83 Saved From the Trash Pile

In video 1715 you'll see a nice, but filthy Abus 83 that Pee Wee saved from the trash pile and sent in. A replaceable core lock, I'll probably re-key it and throw in a pile of security pins to keep things interesting for the next guy.

This was probably used with a 5 pin key, I would guess the rest of the organization it was used for had 5 pin locks in some applications for the same key.

As a home owner I use these in the configuration shown. All of my doors and padlocks are the same key set, with master keys for my wife and I. Kids/ guests get non master keys. Since most of my locks are only 5 pin I can't use 6 pins in the padlocks. I even have some inside privacy doors with only 1 or 2 pins that will open with any key in the set plus a key blank. Granted most home owners don't even know this is possible. Thank you for the content!

Awesome trash haul! That is one of the old ABUS 83s that did not have the top access for the 6th pin and all of those drivers were factory standard. Those come zero bitted with 5 pins. I always add a 6th pin to all of my locks but that's just me.

Now all you need to do is file a new key, and you have a fine Abus lock with good security.

Good save. The only lock I ever found on the street was an Abus. I picked it, made a key and still have it

One way of "mastering" a core (probably not the right term) is to have some cores with 5 pins, and some cores with 6. That way the 6 pin keys open every lock, the 5 pin keys only open the 5 pin locks.
