O rings are a backup. The press actually crimps the copper fitting so tightly around the pipe that it's leak free, but if water was to get through, the o ring prevents it from going further

Honestly I was a solder everything guy til I tried one of these and actually I really like them other than the fact they're easily 5-10x the cost of end feed fittings and that gets expensive fast

We use the rothenberger for hvac. Fitting are expensive but its awesome. Especially where a hot work is required.
