How to Build and Attach Legs to an existing Table Top

Using woodworking joinery to build new legs for and existing table top. We needed a table to place garden seedlings in the window. I found an existing pine table top I built years ago for my daughter but couldn't find the legs. So like any wood worker I build new ones to fit the existing table top.

You seem pretty experienced with a table saw, from someone who is new to it, is it true that using the rip fence as a crosscut stop/slide is dangerous?
