My first campaign so far:

Went to one of those genealogy websites to see how far back I could trace some of my actual ancestry (relatives had a membership).
Found my 27th Great Grandfather is some dude named "William FitzWilliam of Bréteuïl" which was in the normandy region.
Found a character named "William" in Normandy and went "That'll work."
Start the game.
"Wait... why do I have a pressed claim on the entire kingdom of England?"
Made some allies, called in a few favors, siege sussex and most of southern england, win my first war, enforce demands.
"You are now known as William The Conqueror"
".... oh."

Plays the Tutorial: Hmmm...okay. I think I get it. This is fun. Starts up my first campaign: Drowning in my own blood and deposed 45 minutes later.

As soon as I saw my lunatic ruler can call down the taxidermist to stuff his dead son and keep him in the throne room as a morbid way of refusing to accept his death, I knew I was gonna love this game 😂😂😂

I just want you to know that 2 years later this is still an incredible video. I had to stop myself from launching the game like 5 times to make sure I got all your information first. Thank you.

One note on stress:

Don't worry about it if your king is old. You'll get stressed, die and your son will inherit all the goodies you "bought" with your stressful life, and have no stress himself.

Consider stress more of a currency you can spend, rather than a negative metric you want to keep as low as possible. Obviously, you don't want your 25 year old king having a mental breakdown, but if you're 60 and at stress level 2, you're probably on a good track.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful and well paced video. Some people say watch "let's plays" to learn the game. But most of those are talking, clicking and scrolling around the map so fast that I learn nothing about game play. But your videos are in depth and informative. I learn to play "TW Three Kingdoms" from you and that increased my enjoyment of the game tremendously. Looking forward to more videos on CK3!

Hey man. Great video. I work professionally with communication. Your video is *not* slow. Or rather: People who think it is slow, will probably accept this more easy than if you were yabbing through everything. You have a great narration voice. And also: Please PLEASE do a video in inheritance. It is so confusing, but I am sure I would understand it, if you told me. Peace out!

To anyone else who, like me, just started playing CK for the first time on release day: I would HIGHLY recommend trying Novgorod in 867 start. I've played a few other campaigns and the tutorial but always got my ass handed to me; Novgorod was the first time everything kind of "clicked" for me. Surrounded by relatively weak or similar neighbors, lots of good opportunities for alliances, raiding, and you can start (relatively) small but work your way up from duchy to kingdom within a couple decades. Hope this helps some of the other noobs like me lol

im new to this kind of game, and damn, the first pause on my game took me about prolly 1 hour or more just looking at details on what to do and stuff.

After watching this I'm applying to be a NASA astronaut and then finish my medical degree, take my BAR exam, and then invent a new mathematical equation.

This is the best tutorial I’ve come across for this game. It’s so clear and it covers a lot of ground efficiently. Just got into this game a week ago, I love it. Thanks so much for this video!

Pretty sure someone could spoon feed me like a little helpless baby and I still wouldn't understand anything about this game.

What a fantastic resource, i’m at the beginning and can’t wait to dive in. I’ve watched intro-level guides but your flow is the best for capturing how I think when playing the game. Setting up all these pieces, understanding what i’m trying to do, and knowing how to achieve those things I want. Thanks so much for the content.

Blown away by the quality and in-depth knowledge in this video. So useful, and exactly what I was looking for to jump into this game.

Incredible that you did this video in one take. Thank you, Paradox games have such brutal learning curves. I've been playing them for years and barely understand how they work.

@ItalianSpartacus There are some things that you didnt get quite right. Let me correct them for you:

1. Spouse is not adding points to your council, but to you. She does not affect the council by any means, but if she has some good stats she often can give you a positive (or if she has bad stats negative) events in which you gain some extra money, prestige, piety or opinion, or just temporary perks that affect your domain. They are usualy consistent with her lifestyle focus, choices and her traits. Spouse with high Stewardship will sometimes spawn events in which you gain additional money or perks that improve targeted county's development or tax income, one with high Diplomacy will raise opinion of you amongst your court and vassals and so on and so forth.

2. You said that Learning stat affects Court Phisicians ability to heal, which of there is no indicator in the game or in the tooltips, so I wouldn't be so sure about that. As far as I noticed the only thing that affect Court Phisician is his Physician trait, as it has a health boost on the tooltip and it says so in the trait decription.

3. You said that Development is not that nescessary, which is HUGE missconception. It is extremely important to have high development in your counties as county's development quickens development in neighboring counties. And the reason you need high development is because the higher Average Development of the counties within your culture group, the quicker you unlock new Innovations that help your domain in staying ahead techonologically compared to your opponents. I know that it seems not that crucial, but the more time I spend with the game the more important it gets (you can't have primogeniture succesion if you dont have certain Innovation, you cant adopt feudal way as a tribe without having all innovations in Tribal Age unlocked, you cant build certain buildings that gives you more tax and levies without proper technology). In short, Developent is EXTREMELY important, and If you dont convert cultures, have your steward improve development in one of your counties, the gains from that are FAR greater then couple % more tax income.

The last part was a good advice, not only on this game, but on learning anything.
