To crop video in vlc media player go to tools and click effects and filters.
Go to video effects and select crop.
Over here if you want to have even crop on all sizes check this synchronize top, bottom, left, and right.

Now type in values in pixels.
For example top and bottom to be 200px and left and right to be 500 px.

As you can see we cropped the video.
But, we have a few steps to do to save this.

Go to tools, preferences.
In show settings click all.

Go to the video tab and click filters.
Over here find cropadd.
Now add the values in the fields that you added at the beginning.
Top and bottom 200, and left and right 500.
Click filters and enable video cropping filter.

Click save.

Ok, the last step is to save this new video.
Go to the media and select convert save option.
Over here add your video.
Click convert from the dropdown menu.
Choose the mp4 format, it's the first one.
Now click on the little wrench icon and go to video codec.
Go filters.
Enable video cropping filter.
Click save.
Choose where you want to save your cropped video.
Click save and hit start.
Now if you don’t want to crop every video you open you need to disable cropping.
Go to tools, preferences, and click reset preferences.

You can check your video in the folder you choose.

And this is how you crop videos using VLC media player.

This was a great video, but the process did not work for me. I followed your steps to the letter 3 separate times, but the newly cropped video would not save to my PC. I even left the folder open to observe the file saving, but it never appeared, and is nowhere to be found in any of my directories. Went through all steps using latest version of VLC. Not sure why this didn't work for me.

Brilliant thank you, the final part of a very long process of converting a powerpoint to video. (I know its an option with powerpoint, but mine has never worked). Screen capture showed my task bar etc, now the video is perfect thank you.

EZ Tutorial I don't know what' am doing wrong, but after follow all your steps the first time, eveything went well, but on my second attempt only the audio is recorded and the screen is all black. Even after resetting the preferences. Help me on this! I have try everything. Thanks in advaced EZ!

I cropped a 30 second video - thank you. For some strange reason the video refuses to start from 0:00 (the beginning) in VLC. It jumps to 0:12 and plays from there to end.... I have redone 3 times and get the same result.... Any ideas?
P.S. The original (uncropped) video plays from 0:00 to Just noticed when I play the cropped video in Window Media Player or the Windows 10 default (Films) programs the entire video is played...

Do not forget to deactivate "LOOP" before starting. Otherwise it will always try to overwrite the created file.

1:29 I accidentally clicked the Red X on H.264 at the top and has disappeared. How do I get this back or do I have to create it back again as a new profile?

I just get a black screen with audio. If I don't apply the filter it "converts" with the original video and audio just fine.
