For anyone attempting this that is getting stuck at loading the files in, I was using an EMU Midi to USB cable and had to put the EMU cables MIDI OUT plug on the Yamaha's MIDI IN for this to work.

I just restored a DX7 by putting in a new CR2032 battery and following this excellent video! Now the only thing left to fix is a faulty volume slider!

Thank you for explaining it simply and correctly! Your settings on the DX7 work for Dexed too! I found a near mint DX7 for $29.99 at a thrift store! It works perfectly. No cartridges though. I'm not usually this lucky, and I'm in heaven. lol

It worked! I own a mint condition DX7 with the cartridge and some paperwork in the case. One day half of the internal voices mysteriously disappeared. This fixed it!

That’s mean the Dx7 can be played by itself without cartridge right? I just got one today but it’s not working the sound are not coming out from every preset and The keyboard hasn’t got cartridges.

Hello woody. I would like know if this method is the same to load new sounds to a yamaha DX7 IID?. If the method is similar but with different butons, is the main objetive turn off the memory protect internal to can do the transfer? And the library of the DX7 normal will be functional in DX7 IID?. Great, so does it work with a DX7IID? What kind of interface would I need to connect between PC and DX7II to communicate between them?
