All of Argento's filmography (at least until the late 90s) is essential

"The Bride Wore Black" orig "La mariée était en noir" is really good, and because it is French often gets forgotten. Very well crafted mystery,

"The Crimes of the Black Cat" is very cool as it features a blind detective, and the uncut version has some serious sleaze and gore.

"The Red Queen Kills Seven Times" has some real high points and some real low points, but that's fun too, and it has a great big spectacular ending that many
of these movies don't.

Without question Dario Argento was/is the greatest Italian Horror/Giallo director of all time (i.e., Terror at the Opera, Tenebrae etc.) But I definitely think Lucio Fulci's 'New York Ripper' should be in the conversation for to coolest/goriest Italian Horror Giallo of all time as well. Peace

This is actually a damn good giallo list condensed in just 6 minutes, I'm genuinely (and pleasantly!) surprised.
Very nice, Kyle and Nerdist!

Deep Red is a masterpiece of cinematography and atmosphere.... Love it. Not particularly _scary, _ as with most of these old giallos -- but that goddam mechanical doll thing creeps the living hell out of me.

6) A Bay of Blood - LOVE IT. Not only an great giallo but also the first ever slasher movie
5) All the Colors of the Dark - meh, I didn't like this one, but I know it's really popular. All the kills were either off-screen or almost bloodless
4) The Red Queen Kills Seven Times - brilliant; one of my favourite gialli ever
3) What Have You Done to Solange? - another popular one I didn't like. Almost no kills and all off-screen. I'll give it props for keeping me interested in who Solange was and what happened to her
2) The Fifth Cord - I have this one but haven't seen it yet
1) Death Walks at Midnight - also have this one and haven't seen it. I actually watched it's sister movie Death Walks on High Heels this afternoon and enjoyed it.

In those golden period berween "60 and more in "70 italian directors and movies ( the numbers is amazing ) a lot so smart but not recognized until today thank some critics not accademic and mr Tarantino : it seems that all was permited . A italian extream rage and destructive pleasure was free finally to destroy, challenge the powerfull catholic church and its order and values and "the way to watch" lives and humans . I suggest warmly some Joe d' Amato as
Rosso Sangue e Antropophaus !
I guess without Catolic Church no libido repression, no rigid education ( I got too ) no so many wonderful masterpiece o otalian f horror and thriller genre .

dario argento is overated. his use of humor is really bad. there are a lot of more tense ans suspensful giallos (don't torture a duckling, the house with the laughing windows are fine examples, but far from being the only ones).
for me, as genius as his 3 masterpieces are (opera, deep red and bird), dario makes "by the numbers" galli and appeals more to girls who want to introduce themselves into the genre without going into weirder territory.
